Hi everyone, newbie here and yes..... confession time, i don't own a beemer (my 325i days were a long time ago!) have a quick question i'm hoping someone will know more about than i do though.... A good friend of mine has been a mechanic for many many years and now makes a living building race engines so i hope you can appreciate he's pretty good at the old engine lark, anyway.... today i was helping him clear out his workshop of accumalated 'may come in handy one day' spares, and under a bench sat a big lump of engine that i now know came out of a 2002tii the story is...... 10 years ago, when he ran a garage someone brought one in for a restoration, he fully stripped and rebuilt the engine, new rings, pistons, rods, re ground crank, new bearings, head pressure tested, blah blah... you get the idea, the full caboodle basically and also purchased a new inlet manifold for twin 40's which were destined to be fitted.... car got stripped and sent away to bodyshop etc, came back and the reassembly started then the stumbling block.... callipers, now i know nowt about these cars but apparently back then they were a bit like rocking horse droppings, and subsequently he couldn't source any so left it to the owner to do.... in the time the car had spent at the body shop and had the engine done the owner still hadn't found any. So the project was put on hold until they appeared... then the car was moved back to the owners lock up and the engine stayed put as no money had been paid yet..... 4 years later the block the lock up was in was due to be demolished, notice was served on all the people leasing lock ups, the owner never retrieved the car so it got crushed by the council and the engine still stayed put.... so now after 10 years, there's a bare 2002tii engine sat in a workshop that's done nothing but turn by hand since a full rebuild (by bare i mean complete engine but no alternator, loom etc etc and it's always been dry stored and still turns over by hand with no issues) with an inlet manifold for a set of twin 40's, he has no idea why he kept it, he just figured it may come in handy one day for someone
so people... is this worth anything / of use or is it destined to go in the boot of the next car that gets weighed in for scrap? |
