does anyone know of any conversions to swap the covensional dizzy for a direct coil pack ignition...like the e36? |

You will need a standalone ECU (Emerald M3DK would be fine), new wiring loom, new crank trigger, poss cam sensor (depending on how you fire the coils), coils and a ton of patience.
Don't look at much change from �2k even if you do the install yourself. Steve |

The ECU upgrade will give biggest performance gain the coil over ignition will enhance this further, allowing more efficient and controllable ignition..... it would be the next step if someone already had a ECU upgrade that allowed control of the ignition... or for someone that had deep pockets. |

Replacing the ECU will allow you to delete the AFM and this is where the biggest gains in power will come from. The replacement ECU will also allow the use of one coil per cylinder, which if nothing else will be more reliable than having a single coil, leads and dizzy. You could also run sequential injection, which will give smoother low rpm running, better low to mid torque and better economy.
It is a lot of work, I know because this is one of the things I'm planning on implementing on my Sport Evo restoration. Steve |
