a couple of time now i have been exitting roundabouts and opening up and the rear has stepped out on me, relatively easily with not a lot of power on - tyres look ok. could it be greasy roads, it has been very dry here with lots of salt and now its damp drizzle - any ideas?

Could be greasy roads.

How are your rear beam bushes? How are your rear shocks?

Check you tyre pressures.

In that case check top mounts, shock, roll bar bushes, TA bushes and rear beam bushes.

cant find owt wrong boys...well not much. had IT (simon!) up in the air, wheels off springs out, bars in for leverage..not a lot

tyres are sha**ed!, diff seems to be working i think. if you hold one wheel, you can turn the other with some resistance ie with the wheel on you can turn it, but can't quite turn the disk with the wheel off?

Mine passed this test as well - and then tried to kill me

Do you know when the oil was checked/changed?

It's not expensive - as you've found nothing else, it's worth a look

well it worked again, and didn't lock up as I left roundabouts - so didn't try and chuck me into the barriers anymore

there is oil suitable for LSD and there is oil NOT! It will ruin your clutch packs if you use the wrong oil.
Read the label carefully, if it doesn't explicit say for LSD don't use it.

Something tells me this will be the problem....... taking into account that they are the only thing 'holding' you and your car to the road.

Use SAF-XJ, it's what BMW recommend, and use ( at my local dealer, anyway).
