As some of you may be aware I am no longer in possession of my beloved E60. Any future car I think will need to have a tracker fitted regardless. So what are the best ones to fit? Ones that emit GPS or ones that just emit a radio signal? BMW will install two types of tracker, The Monitor or Horizon. From looking around on car insurance websites they list a huge choice of trackers. Given the fact that I was having trouble with a battery drain problem, will trackers drain the battery if left for a length of time. BMW did tell me that the trackers they fit, you as the customer are told where abouts the tracker is fitted in your vehicle. Any comments would be gratefully received. Andrew |

Tracker Horizon, forget the Monitor. The Horizon is tracked from TNUK's centre by road, direction etc and they communicate directly with the police. There is none of this 'beep beep' nonsense that Police have to rely upon with the Monitor. There are lots of others out there though. I don't know enough about them because I've always had the Trackers fitted when the cars have been ordered/delivered. On two of the other points though: 1 - I've never had a battery problem. Their consumption is minimal from what I've been told. 2 - I have had 3 new cars from BMW with Trackers. Not once have I been told where the Tracker is. So I don't know where that comes from. Maybe it was just my dealers, but I've just asked someone else on another forum - and they weren't told either (from another dealer). If you ask, maybe they'll tell you, but I can't see the point in knowing to be honest. |

Thanks for that Coasting The Monitor uses GPS to find its location which I guess will be better than radio signals. I'll see what else I can dig up on the others Andrew |

I think that's incorrect. Look at the website: http://www.tracker.co.uk/home.php?SVR/Works/monitor The Retrieve and Monitor, from what it says, don't use GPS. That's what I thought. It's the Horizon that does. |

Sorry yes I meant Horizon. Being a geek I have made a list of what does what, I had read the wrong row in my spreadsheet. Horizon is £799 fitted and paid up for duration of ownership of vehicle. I got my info from the tracker website I was just suffering from thickness earlier! Andrew |
