About 18 months ago. He needed a bit of persuasion, but did it in the end. What all needs done to your car? Have you found BMW5.co.uk, M5Board.com and MyE28.com? There are also a good few E28 sympathisers on Bigcoupe.com Edited by m3Cecotto |

hi the car needs a major service and of course the chain done, bodywork wise it needs two wings and maybe a new bonnet , the drivers side rear arch needs sorting too, its generally ok though just needs some tlc to bring up to scratch, its mot,d till august next year and taxed so it on the road byut only take it out occasionally till works done, not sure when it was last serviced as it stood for 8 months before i bought it, drove it up from london when i bought it tho and was ok,

hi all, some updates on timing chain, i,ve contacted a few of the garages listed, a w autotech in aberdeen can do it but its £3500 !! also prestige and german in the north east can do work for £1750 including an inspection 11 service, does anyone have any knowledge of this place? has had any work done on there car there? the chap i spoke to told me you don,t need to take the cylinder head off to do the chain, you take sump ond timing chain cover off, does this sound right? any views and advice would be welcome.... regards, martin

The parts are about £900. It can be done without taking the head off.
Just make sure you buy a crank nut. It's not rocket scence or particularly complicated. Remember, this is 1970s engineering - state of the art for then, but 1970s nonetheless. Any decent "old school" mechanic shouldn't really have too much difficulty doing the job and I'd expect you to be paying £1500 - £2000 all in, including parts. You shouldn't need to travel to Aberdeen and at £3500, they may be able to do it, but they don't want to. I'll bet Eastern would do it for less than that. Did you ask Davy again? Boxer, why not post a thread in the North East section of the forum asking if anyone has dealt with them for reassurance.. Prestige and German website here This company is also advertised in the BMWCC mag as offering preferential rates for BMWCC members. Apparently run by a BMW Master technician. I'd give Davy at BM Motors another call tho..just to make sure
