Been thinking about selling my Sport Evo for a while, but when it comes to writing an ad for it, I tend to draw a blank and forget about it.

This time I thought I would put it on and see what happens.

Ok, the good and the bad. I am a VERY honest person and will describe the car as it is. Not better/worse, just as is.

ALL I ASK IS IF YOU ARE GENUINE, PLEASE READ THE WHOLE DESCRIPTION BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS OR ADDING COMMENTS! Thanks.

PICTURES....can be found at the links at the bottom of this description.

The car was supplied NEW by Heathrow BMW in 1990 so this is a GENUINE UK specified from the factory Sport Evolution. It is number 462 out of the 600 or 602 if you include the 2 white Sport Evo's BMW built.

Bodywork has had alot of attention in my ownership, basically any panel which had rust no matter how little was replaced. So it had new front wings, doors, bonnet and sunroof panel. While I was at it I replaced every lamp, trim and badge on the exterior. It had a complete windows out, panels off respray too and is by far the best finish I have ever seen on a car. The car has however been sat outside for the last year and has picked up a couple of marks, but these will be removed and sorted before the actual sale.

I am at a stage now where I can stop now and sell, or continue and finish the car off. But work commitments and lack of time dictates the POSSIBLE sale.

Jobs which needs doing:

The roof panel (not sunroof) has a very very small blister appeared very soon after it was painted. This has not got any worse in the last 2 years since the re-spray. There is also a small blister appeared near to one of the number plate lamps too, but is an easy fix. Boot spoiler has some minor imperfections in it and could do with painting to make mint. A trip to Fife early last year in heavy rain ensured a few stone chips appeared to the front of the car. You just cannot get away with it!!

Interior is extremely good. The drivers side boulster has had a minor repair and the outside lower bolster of both front seats have slight sagging. The foam bolsters are still available from BMW and Recaro to make this mint.

The Gearbox has a weak 2nd gear sychromesh. Its fine changing up, but caution is needed when changing down. The gear shift is nice and tight with a new feeling and all other gears engage and disengage fine. It does have a short shift fitted.

The rest of the drivetrain is fine with no wines from the prop or diff.

The engine is the sweetest E30 M3 S14 you will ever hear! It has an issue though...it was rebuilt by a previous owner a few years back and a new crankshaft was fitted with new rings, etc, etc, etc...but the crank which was fitted, although was a genuine BMW item, was incorrect. It has a 2.3ltr crank fitted. It has done about 10,000 miles since its rebuild. I have a 2.5 crank with pulley nut and bearing shells supplied by BMW. The engine is a 2.5 sport evo engine and all the numbers tally up. Even the rest of the part numbers used for the rest of the rebuild tally up to the 2.5 and not the 2.3!

At the rebuild, a new timing chain, guides, sprokets and tensioner were fitted.

The engine bay could do with a tidy up. There is no cracking atall anywhere, but there is a smal rust patch appearing near to the fuse box near the top of the NSF top strut tower mount. There is surface rust on the OSF chassis leg adjacent to the exhaust downpipe. This is a very common problem.

The headlamp wash wipe is inop. The motors, wiper arms and wipers are new. I have not had chance to check this out, but could possibly be the relay?

The drivers side door lock barrel needs attention, You can lock the car from it and dead lock it, but you can't unlock the car with it, you can however take it off deadlock. This happened directly after the bodyshop replaced the doors, so maybe something isn't quite put back in right?

The boot doesn't lock/unlock with the central locking. This too is a missing link which was not re-fitted when it was in the bodyshop.

A new GENUINE BMW Sport Evo windscreen was fitted. This screen has the top tint.

The HRW has a connector which has become de-tatched from the screen. It has been soldered before, but needs re-soldering. Its a 3mm glass so is worthy of the repair. If you hold the contact to the screen and switch the HRW on ALL bars work.

New Speedo, rev counter, temp gauge and fuel gauge has been fitted, as the old units had grey faces. I still have all these to prove mileage.

The front lower are "lolypop" bushes need replacing for the next MOT, this is due soon.

Uprated aeroquip brake hoses have been fitted all round.

Group N Bilstein shocks have also been fitted all round, by a previous owner. Car is nice and firm.

One rear side window is 4mm not 3mm. But I have a spare 3mm to go in.

The car has 4 brand new sport evo wheels which I understood at the time to have been the last set available from BMW, but they are not NLA again at the moment, but were when I got them. Also, 4 brand new Yokohamas were fitted and have only been to Silverstone and back, NOT tracked round Silverstone.

I have all the original book packs and all the service history with the car. All reciepts to right back to the original purchase invoice. Everything is there. There is litterally over an A4 lever arch file full.

I have Unichipped the car and it dyno's at between 225-230BHP depending on dyno. This is great power considering the lack of compression due to the shorter stroke crank!! Fit the crank and it will make over the BMW claimed 238BHP.

I have also fitted a brand new genuine exhaust system last year too. This includes the twin Motorsport catalysts. The system cost in the region of £1500! But sounds right and will last the distance too. It also brought alot of performance which was lost due to a nasty Heyward and Scott system which was fitted when I bought it.

The alarm is a clifford system which locks and unlocks the car.

There is a period Pioneer CD system fitted.

I am open to offers for the car, as long as they are sensible. I have been offered £20k for the car with the engine done in the past, but will easily fetch in excess of that with all the issues sorted. You will not loose money on this car.

All I need now is someone genuine with the right offer who will persuade me to sell her!

Taxed till end of this year,
MOT up this month some time,
Mileage close to 100k MILES.

Sorry Paul but I'm going to be really pedantic, but the title of the thread, ...... UK SPEC!, shouldn't that read UK SUPPLIED?

Good luck with the sale mate, looks really nice, hope she finds a good home.

Thanks Sporty, I thought about that before putting it on.... My thoughts were that UK Spec (specified) kinda puts a rubber stamp on it being a genuine UK car - built at the factory to UK specification. I also thought about the UK supplied statement and for some reason I suspected I would get a few pedantic remarks like "mine is German spec but UK supplied!)

I think you guys get my drift

She started on the button despite being left for months and the engine sounds sooo sweet. I almost removed the topic!

Okeys,

Unfortunately the buyer who was going to buy this car has dissappeared off the face of the Earth, so its back up for sale.

There are a few ways I will sell the car. You can buy it as is, some faults repaired, or fully sorted. But asking price will vary obviously.

Genuine enquiry's only please as I had lots of "oh I only just saw this" AFTER I "provisionally sold" the car, but none have seemed to be genuine.

I will consider p'ex with another E30 M3/320is or E36 GT/GT2 or E46 330d coupe. All plus cash though.

Ok, no serious buyers have come forward, so I am going to carry on with it and finish the car completely.

Its going to get Genuine new springs, shocks, bushes, pads, disc's and handbrake shoes all round. The engine is now going to be pulled out and a complete rebuild where necessary with attention being made to combustion chamber capacities being very equal, and a full ballancing. The engine will be standard, but as best as one can get. The gearbox too is going to be stripped and re-built.

Roll on next summer when hopefully it will all be finished.

Well Simon,

If I am going to this amount of trouble to make this car one of the very best Sport Evo's there is, I will be silly to sell it, unless someone wants to part with mid to high £20k. I am also going to have the seats re-trimmed too, I have all the original material to do the whole lot. Recaro - or the UK suppliers/manufacturers are going to do that work for me.

But I fear a drop in values of classic cars in general soon.... maybe in a couple of years time? If it doesn't sell before that happens, I will certainly keep it.

I have contacted the original "purchaser" for the last time. If it falls on deaf ears, the car will stay.

For now though, people have missed a bargain!

will this include a 2.5 crank?

I am sure you will not going to sell her after the engine is done and you have been out for a drive......
If you can afford it, keep her! Values might drop, but I am sure a proper SE will always fetch the right money.

E61 520d, slow and buzzy but my wallet likes the mpg.....

Excellent news. I'm planning a bare metal respray on mine this winter. I was wondering who is doing your gearbox rebuild?

Mine was bare metal, windows out and I inspected it when it was in that state, 2 years on and I still have 2 very small blisters come through. I think the only way is Stevesingo styley!

My gearbox is being rebuilt by a friend of mine, unless he doesn't want to do it ofcoarse!
