we don't need no stinking insurance, you'll be alright as long as you don't follow in the skidmarks of this guy....

Just got my insurance certificate through from Admiral for the M3 and looking at the small print. It reads
The policy does not cover ' use for hiring, merchandise delivery or use for any purpose in connection with the motor trade. Use on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, or for racing, pace-making, competitions, rallies, track days, trials or speed testseither on road, track or at an off road 4x4 event.' Think it's clear where Admiral stand on this Alan. |

I'm interested in coming along, what's the proposed time frame? I only ask as I've got the Scumball in late April.

Alan is spot on but most insurance covers the ring (although sometimes with a fight) check your policy doesn't exclude it but don't phone and ask them, they will always say no! |

Safer not to use avis etc, as you say if you get caught you're in trouble but there are companies at the ring you can rent vehicles from for the ring, for example http://www.rent-racecar.de/gb/ |

Wouldn't fancy hiring something from the local Avis unless it was coming from Q. (James Bond style) The higher cars have special number plates so easy to spot, was in Germany earlier in year and hired a 525d.
Also, what if you crashed it on the track? Drag it to the main road and call the AA to tow you back to the higher firm. Too costly I think. Better getting your own car insured for a one off trip to the ring. XR4i yee-haa Alan. |

flying in and hiring sounds nice and cheap but i've heard that the main car hire companies get a bit niggly about their cars being used on the ring, to the extent of spying to make sure they aren't is this true and if not, are there recommendations for car hire companies for a suitable set of wheels? |

OK I think we'll go with number 2 - aim for 1st payment due in january 2008. I think it'll be the 21st and 22nd June 2008, so if you can keep that date free in your diaries that would be great.
Any thoughts on whether to go via Roysth, or drive down to Hull or Dover? |

Steve, I think you met my mates Findlay at the 'ring last week (red supercharged MX5). I am just back from his and he has a fantastic picture of your car, if you PM me your email address I'll get it to you.
I am very interested in a trip to the ring in the Z4.... just not sure I can afford it next year with a month out in Oz. G |

Is this for 2008 or is it past? Now I've got a factory car I think I'd be up for a "gumball" jaunt. Ferry from Scotland would be the answer fuel wise.

I'll need to see the dates before confirming if I can make it or not. I'm a definite maybe for now. What's the preferred route to take? |
