106 miles from a brimmed tank, of which probably 12 were the drive to & from Mondello to Naas for the petrol. That was the full tank used on track & it worked out around 8mpg.... the not so hidden cost of trackdays! But boats are another kettle of fish entirely. 1 ton haa haa haa. |

My E36 316i SE AUTO does 32.5MPG, I tested it out also last weekend as I drove over 440miles on a round trip from Kerry to Connaught, Filled her to the brim and still had enough juice for running around while after I came back down.
A little bit juicey for my liking but I can't complain as I am driving a BMW and a delightful auto at that. Luxury Auto cars FTW!! everytime I see some spotty teen smashing around the gears in a manual small car e.g. Nissan Micra makes me glad I drive a BMW. |

Jeebus The absolute best I can get from the E46 M3, and I mean absolute Driving Miss Daisy best, is about 27mpg. Thats 6th gear cruising at 2000 rpm. I have never seen the thirties in this car. My actual average atm considering I do a lot of town driving is around 14mpg and last week in particularly bad traffic I managed 5.4mpg trying to get from harcourt street to drumcondra.

The best I manage on the 740 is 27.5 mpg on long runs with light foot - typically 22.5 mpg on average.

I got an obc of 32-odd mpg out of my brothers '00 735i on a return spin Cork- Shannon, which worked out around nearer the 31mpg mark in reality. I just bunged the cruise on @ 65mph and left it at it. He gets 23mpg normally though and tis all short journeys he does, so not much different from you, Irishwoody. @ Mick - that's interesting. I thought it could produce similar figures to the E36. Mines a 5speed, so 65mph is 2,750rpm. |

14mpg Mick? Thats nearly as bad as Kin. You should do what I've done. Buy
a small car (Toyota Starlet etc) for the commuting. Also makes you look forward to driving the ///M that bit more. And a full tank of V-Power seems to last weeks. Or maybe just keep driving it and enjoy it everyday. |

Had e36 320i never got more than 32mpg on long journeys and around 16mpg in town. Have 320d now 50mpg long journeys over 30mpg in town and performance is the same, all that is missing is the sound of the six cylinder engine at high revs. Maybe that is why consumption was high !. |

[/QUOTE] On that subject my girlfriend has a 00 1.2 punto and it is no better than my old 525td and slightly better than my old 525iS, bit of a false economy these small cars! |
