Hi all, I recently became the owner of a 320i fitted with the 6 cylinder M52 Engine and I am delighted with the car so far. In the last few weeks, oil consumption has become a bit of an issue and I have been reading articles on the Internet about cylinder bore wear on the 6 - cylinder cars manufacured between 96 and 98. I would appreciate any information on this issue Thanking you in advance MAC

Do a quick search on nicasil / nikasil - this topic has come up a number of times.
Also take a look at http://www.lestac.co.uk/bmw/nikasil.htm |

I’ve just received my 323 back after getting the new block and pistons fitted (at BMW’s expense, do a search of my previous posts for the full info).

That would be correct. New pistons & Block (just pay for oil, antifreeze and auxiliaries) . + Water pump, Thermostat, & Clutch (hay get it while the labour is free) 2 days insurance on loan car (03 reg 318 coupe) Total cost to me £320.06 One happy customer. |

I have a '95 E36 with - guess what - terminal nikasil problems. west london bmw could have been more helpful but hopefully customer services will see the light. I can't recommend the http://www.lestac.co.uk/bmw/nikasil.htm site highly enough. Clear, succinct and fair. I'll post the results good luck JamesG |
