Hi Dbanberry and IanH,
Yes! The2.7 was the end of the production line,a 325is clone called the shadowline with the 2.7 motor as a test for BMW Motorsport.
The 333 had an interesting start if my weekend informant was correct!
The Mad scientists at BMW sa shoehorned a 535m engine into a 325 setup ,ran it and shipped it to Germany where the safety minded types felt it was a Kamikaze bomber so Sarf effrikans detuned one, beefed up the suspension, brakes and put a limiter chip into it to produce the 333,
They are like chickens teeth and for awhile easy to find in the scrapyards
but no longer alas!!
One of our crowd has cut a 535 into his 2002 and it smokes!
Uses sideshafts more often than we wear underpants and is hell on wheels in a straight line! beware any change of direction
In terms of the original 325,one of our friends,in a beer induced moment of madness took a GBP10 bet he could get from Johannesburg to Cape town in less than 8 hours in his new car.
A distance of 1400 kms or just on 870 miles!!it took 8 months and some tuning ,a new chip and with some of us manning refueling stops and paying at tollgates before he arrived,a bell jet ranger talking him thru early morning traffic,he did it in 7h.37 minutes
Sheer madness! Disowned by BMW SA but they sold out of every available 325 within a week of it hitting the papers lol
Average speed 187 k/hour
will check out the ads for 333 and or shadowline and see if any are available
regards

I would say the 333 are like hens teeth, When I lived in SA I once saw a white one in a JHB showroom years ago with AC Schnitzer conversion on closer inspection it looked as if it had a hard life, I guess there would be very few in perfect condition, most would have ended up on hte track. They where built for homogilation to compete with the Alpha 3.0 GTV (Only 2.5 litre verion in Europe)!!I think!!
I could be wrong about the 325Is with 2.7 motor. As far as I remember. It was a special at the end of the E30 produciton in SA, some time around 92, I would like to find out more.

they don't have as much rust proofing as their euro counter parts.
Would be interested in getting hold of a 333i or even the 2.7 that BMW SA produced!

Hi All,
Answers in order of posts:
Dbanberry, let me have the engines and chassis no's as well as info ,addresses etc you have for the previous owners and I'll check out what I can,
As far as I recall, the 745,built exclusively for the Sa market had the M1 engine and Buffalo Hide seats it was brought out to fight the MB 500 Se's here! I know of 2 that are in the states.
The E30 333 I know about but the 2.7 325is I will have to check on.
A lot of cars have emigrated from here, purely as a result of the exchange rate,on the Macdonalds scale 13 :1 so its a lot cheaper to put a car in a container than to have to buy one there
Regards

cool, im pretty sure my e30 318i is the same as the euro ones, apart from the huge heavy black underbody tray that sits underneath..... and obviously it would ever have anything like heated door lock barrels etc.... do a lot of SA cars find their way into the UK?

At a club meeting last year we had a 7 series with a M1 engine in it no less, built in SA. There was a limited number of these built for SA market. I think I remember and article in Total BMW mag also about them
There was also an E30 333. also E30 325iS with 2.7 motor
all built for local market.
These are a few that some to mind, maybe Dax add some more info.

You are sorted for getting parts to SA. As luck would have it I am traveling out of Cork also, early December. I am flying to Holland to get KLM direct to Cape town and internal flight back up to Joburg on the same day, there is method in my madness.
Haveing a few beers and talking motors sounds great, I am in JHB for a few days with outlaws, not much time for beer, thanks any way.
