The creator and patent holder of “the clear wheel” Doug McGoon and Forgiato have combined to turn this idea into a real drivable wheel.

In 2006 we proudly produced and introduced “The Clear Wheel” called Radurra for cars and motorcycles.

Again we return to our roots of jewelry manufacturing. A technique known as bezel setting which only master diamond setters can know, is where the diamonds are just slightly larger than the bezel they are set into, and held in place by pressure. Understanding this, we put the same care and consideration towards the Radurra as we would towards a fine watch. By eliminating the alloy center of a three piece forged wheel and setting into its place a hard coated polycarbonate center with a glass-like finish we achieve an amazing and stunning look, with a finished product that looks too good to be a wheel. Much the same way the diamond is set into a bezel setting, the polycarbonate center is set into the forged aluminum hoops with precision machining and a jeweler’s touch… the end result is a wheel that is strong, safe and beautiful. Now show off your high performance brakes and suspension on your high-end car or motorcycle. The same way you would add diamonds to your platinum watch, add the Radurra to your “platinum” car or custom chopper. With a vast range of color and finish options, your Radurra is sure to be as individual as yourself or your clientele.

The Radurra is currently available in twenty and twenty-two inch, and are custom built on order for your car or motorcycle.

The center is 1.5 or 2” polycarbonate, chemical hard coated both sides.

Weight 20” - 27 lbs, and 22” - 38 lbs (complete wheel weight)

All other parts of the wheel are forged 6061t aluminum
(Inner and outer hoops and Hub center)

SAE tested, certified and passed Impact, cornering and radial tests.

Now in production, average delivery time is 6-8 weeks.

Suggested retail is $5000.00 per wheel

Never mind your polycarbon's, the burberry drop and mod brigade will soon be fabricating lookalikes with perspex and using it to replace the cross spoke part of the e36 bbs split rims from the Sport coupe.  It'll kick lexus rear lights off the top of the modding charts!

The comment was a bit tongue in cheek, based on the fact that not too many of the plastic bit mods on your average dressed up Civic, etc. have been created following a rigorous engineering and testing lifecycle - "form" over function.  Perspex sheeting based wheels might flex a bit in cornering but its cheap and readily available and could be used to create a look not unlike the $5k per corner item.

Bezel Setting - hahahahahahahahahaha!  I wouldn't like to support over a ton of motorcar on them!

Would be a sod to get the kerbing marks polished out...

EDIT: Tj - I thought that you said that the e39 was more the "family car" and you weren't going nuts on it!!!

Polycarb is the stuff they make the glasses for rimmles etc. isn't that expensive. However from experience they tend to change color if exposed to various enviro things. e.g. heat, chemicals and even sweat.

Will be fun to see them after some carwash stuff, wheel cleaner, wax and road grime sits on them. Oh and they will scratch when cleaned unless you use that soft cloth you can buy at Specsavers.

And IMHO they look mank. You might get away with that in the US but can you imagine the local youth.... the amount of piss taking will be tremendous.

Totally wicked man. I'm sure anybody willing to buy them wouldn't be parking in the Square car park on a Saturday night anyway so they probably wouldn't get vandalized. and if the Polycarb is 2 inches thick I'm sure they will have some sort of coating that will clean easy and not scratch.

you would really buy them for a modification show and use your chrome spinners for everyday use, as for scratching if some skanger wanted to damage them while in a car park they will succeed, dont have to just scratch, a bit of spray paint and with them

Not required.......when one is doing all of 10mph everywhere, to ensure that all and sundary can see ones $20,000 + worth of wheels, brake cooling is at the bottom of list of requirements.

Extremely gimmicky.  An answer to a question no-one was asking.  To my mind a nice alloy wheel is not just functional but a piece of automotive "art" (for want of a better word) to be enjoyed in its own right.
