I've had a small drive of a 116. No real power but it handles like a dream. Good as a little number around town and the country lanes too. I bet the M would be lovely! I'd have one, very nice! Mike |

I have seen a 130i with an M badge, that looked hot and went like stink, don't think it was an official M though, are they doing one? Mike |

They'd probably call it the 130iM possibly? or perhaps the M130? They need to do something to rival the likes of the Civic R-type and the golf R32 not to mention the Audi S3 etc...... the beemer 1 series in M guise would flatten the lot I'm sure! Come on BMW, please make one Mike |

Same way they get a manual M5 when most can't or don't drive 'stick'. Thinking about it, it might be something to do with LHD/RHD... who knows.

Probably because there is a bigger market in the USA for the bigger engines and from a business perspective, not much point doing them for the UK as most are used as run arounds mainly. A motorsport version of the 130i (better wheels, stiffer suspension, LSD and cosmetic styling etc) costs about £31K ish (from last series of Tog Gear) anyway, which is more than the R32 Golf, Civic R and similar small hatches, so a fully blown M version would suffer in the market place, in my opinion. Performance wise the 130i seems great, saw one a few weeks back, thought it was a measly 116/118 tailgaiting, but when I moved over, it shot past lol. An engine from a 335ti or an M3 would be just funny. (Personally I'd go down the Z4M Coupe route even though its not a hatch and there's enough M models to choose from now too). |
