I'm not a BMW expert, but as my dad always said (a mechanic) ...
...nothing is a problem. It should be the same as a standard e36 i'd think. it's not like you're trying to get it in a mini.... it's the same car without a boot.... |

be aware you will have a more hassle getting insurance with a different engine. removes more than 50% of insurers who will even give you the time of day. the ones who do will charge you nicely for the privelege. mine increased more than 300 fully comp with severe restrictions and high excesses. in the end i went for TPFT (my car is worth buttons) which was still 150 more for one more litre in my engine bay. it all depends if the 2.5 is going to be worth it for you....on balance my 3.5 is worth it to me although it would have been cheaper for insurance if id whacked a big turbo on my 2.5. your only saving grace may be that you currently have a 1.9.....the smaller the initial engine size seems to make a difference to certain insurers. just food for thought

When I put a 1740 engine in my 1300 mk1 escort the insurance company were looking for an engineers report that the car was capable of taking the bigger engine. They wanted to know about suspension, brakes and running gear were up to scratch. Too much hassle so I left the engine in and told them I was leaving it as a 1300. Plod never noticed even though the thing rocked about on tickover like the engine was tyring to escape. Is it worth while getting an engine from an L reg car? Milage and reliability might be an issue. (Not knocking L reg cars as mine is by the way). Easy option..sell compact, buy 325i Alan. |
