im running xp mce, no problems removing it, mothers computer running xp pro, no problems removing it, and fathers laptop running xp home.... no problems either

then again they are all patched to death through windows updates, maybe being current makes a difference

anyway, back to mr tan and his problems...

dynamic link library hell then...Ivan I would stick with IE6, the grass isn't that much greener..

Stephen, why does IE7 Hog system resourses then, memory usage way up there since I installed it on my father's laptop?

IMHO I think it's duping people into a false sense of security, with the necesity for hardware upgrades to keep up, ie memory

because, like Vista, Office 2007, Norton AV and most recent software from major vendors it's needlessly complex and termed "bloatware"?

Has anyone tried starting Windows in Safe Mode and then trying to uninstall IE7? It wont uninstall because you have some software running in the background that is sharing some of IE7's files. Would be similar to a sharing violation. If one user has the document open, even if you are the owner, you cannot delete it until they close it... Oh, and you do not need to 'hack the registry' to get the menu bar to present itself. Try opening IE7, clicking on the "TOOLS" tab on the top right and select "MENU BAR"...

Personal warning for an IT Administrator. Do not mess with the registry...if you do not know what you are doing, you can royally stuff up your PC...

I'm still running Dos 4.1, and my word processor is Edlin.

All programs run like lightning on my 6.2 mhz twin core liquid Co2 cooled processor.

Had to write my own Dos Browser though, which was quite an effort, taking around 2 years to sort, but it works fine now.

Did you see those pigs just flying past the window?

Most new software is just designed to keep programmers in business, and contains as is said above - lots of 'Bloatware' When I used to write software for schools that had to fit in less than 30K or the hard disks would not run, saving a byte was worth spending a couple of hours on. Now why bother? Memory around 2 meg and hard drives at 750 gig for £299? (Maplins - special offer until 23rd January.

My first 40 meg (note the meg)hard drive cost £400 - and its still running on my BBC Master.

Seriously though, the only problem I have found with IE7 is that the chatroom does not work. Apart from tabs and a phishing filter, I cannot see any difference to IE6, so its probably not worth the bother of installing.

I think stories of problems with IE7 have been greatly exagerated

OK - as a product IE7 is an improvement on IE6....

BUT....

It will only run properly on newer type PC's with loads of RAM, and a fast processor as it is memory/resource hungry.

SO....

If you ain't got one of them, and IE6 ain't broke

Don't Load It!

(p.s. uninstalling ie7 is easy, except the process tends to forget that ie6 was ever installed - which can be an 'issue' )

Never had a problem with IE7 and IE6 wasn't broken. IE7 looks much prettier than IE6 so I want to keep it. Anyway, I have a wonderful program from my ISP and it's called AOL 9 which is supercalafragilisticgetbealedotious and has the best security on the net and to top it all off, it only takes up about 300mb of RAM before I've even used it! Cool huh? I bet you are all really jealous?

AND I can have everything in pink should I so wish so there!

Perhaps some of you need a hardware upgrade. This is 2007 you know
