The good news: the cylinder head work is complete.

The bad news: the bill is £2300. Or thereabouts.

*sigh*

Sometimes you just have to swallow your shock and pay up. Last year, bringing the bodywork up to scratch cost three grand.

And besides, as you know, I don't like new cars. I would much rather have a stylish old classic and keep it running. It's much more fun..... supposedly!

Agreed. I drove the new 5 Series last week in the Fatherland and it's f*cking horrible, a really unplesant turd. This one was modded with 19 inch rims and lowered, but even so.......YUK!!
That new 6 Series looks like a complete abortion as well. WHAT ARE BMW DOING??

The new 6-Series will appeal to those wealthy, urbane people who don't mind what it looks like and aren't really familiar with the E24... Let's just say that if the electrics go wrong in about 14 years' time, you won't want to be owning one.

Hmmmm.......I get the distinct feeling that in ten year's time, all those early E65's will be valueless, unfixable scrap. To think the first owner could have bought a house for the same money. Fools.
I agree Horse, decent old stuff is the way to go and preserving some of it for the future is a good idea. Even an E28 518 (!) because anyone can fix them at home. Replacing a 635CSi head will be nothing compared to sorting out why the electronic handbrake and active steering ECU's don't work.......!

In order to understand how the E63 works, you may need a degree in electronic engineering as opposed to mechanical engineering...

As for decent old stuff, I'm all for it. I still don't quite understand what makes people want to preserve Allegros and Marinas, though

I think a law should be made that all alegros, marina, metro's etc be sent to the crusher no exceptions other than a 6R4.
