Hi guys,
Whats the typical cost of a custom remap these days? My Evo 2 is running a later 091 DME/ECU (evo 2 DME is 090) and the Evo 2 chip doesn`t work in the ECU so I am having to run the 215bhp chip that came with the 091 DME instead. From memory, I know the pistons are different in the Evo 2 engine so I don`t think that running with the 215bhp chip is ideal. Has anyone used a place in or near Plymouth? Am I right in thinking that the timing should be okay but the fuelling part of the map probably needs adjusting? Edited by Darren M |

Prices I've seen quoted in here range from £150 to well over £300.

Darren, both the ignition and timing will be out with the 215 chip. The Evo2 has a higher compression ratio than the 215 engine, so should in theory need the ignition retarded. Saying that, my Evo2 with the correct ECU needed more ignition advance, so the 215 chip maybe a good upgrade!?? I can't remap the chip so am unable to give you a price. But Unichip would cost you about £500 mark, maybe a little more as you need to get into the ecu and modify the board slightly and attach a couple of wires for the ignition interception. Probably worth talking to Jayson at ChippedUK. He has chips for these cars...and would be the best value fir money too. HTH |

this can be solved with burning a new EVO2 chip suitable for the 091 DME. Don't spend a fortune for a remap, this is a £5 solution for the right people. Will PM you later... |

Thorney Motorsport has given me a quote of £650 for a full remap. And I think that's PLUS Vat... |

Looking on Emerald's site, they charge £250 to map their own ECU.So you could almost buy the Emerald ECU and have it mapped for not far off what Throney want just to map ? A days hire of the rolling road at Emerald is £500.

Thanks, I may have something sorted out soon - fingers crossed. Would it be too risky to drive the car with the 215 chip in it for now? I need to get a slow puncture repaired

Here`s something a little interesting. I used the car today. With the 215bhp chip in the new ECU, the oil temp stays about 10degees lower on the gauge. The needle stays pretty much right in the middle of 75 and 100 permantenly. With the Evo 2 chip in place (albeit in the old buggered ECU), the needle was always just a mm or two under the 100 degree marking.
Car ran okay with the 215bhp chip. I never took it above about 3500rpm and it was a little unsure at 3000 when on light(ish) throttle - hopefully the correct chip sorts that out. |

you don't need to be that hesitant. Drive it, rev it, but don't stay on WOT for a minute.
I have driven my 2.5 with 290/290 cams for 1500miles with a 195 chip (because they didn't tell me that the chip WASN'T changed) with no damage. Just don't floor it all the time. |

The M3 now has the correct chip installed with the correct Evo 2 map - thanks to Martin @ Max. Haven`t driven it yet but it starts up fine and I`m sure it`ll run just great now.
