Spotted this on ebay and was wondering what you all thought. It looks a bit rough but price might be cheap enough. Travelling from Glasgow it's 7 hours away so don't want to waste my time. What is going rate for evo2 in rough and good condition?

Prices are all over the place, but that particular one is only worth the starting price in my opinion, looking at the sunroof, that car will rotten, even though it may look good, start digging!

Munich Ledgends have one for nearly £17k. But its only done 36,000 miles and in my opinion too, is not a minter.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Paul, don't mind getting something that requires some work but if this was my car I don't think I would have let it get into this condition.

Might e-mail him and offer less since I be travelling ...dunno, long way to go to find an absolute plug.

If you decide to buy it i hope your pockets are deep   it looks as though a lot of work is required. If an Evo 11 is what you want what about the red one on ebay?? it's a uk car.

Sorry Andy but red is not my colour for a car unless it's a Ferrari and unforunatly the funds don't stretch that far.

Got a friend in Germany who says there are plenty E30 M3's over there but how does registering and insuring it to bring it back work? (German ebay got some)

Might hold off for a while and save some more pennies up and get a good one instead. I do live in sin but mortgage is my debts and I don't want a loan.

Wonder why?? Too many dodgy adverts these days for the potential e30 owner. I remember when I was looking for mine and it took me 3 years to find a 'good' one bearing in mind the work Ive done which is probably nothing compared to some.

Some money pits around that people are thinking are bargains....they need to realise there isnt such a thing as a bargain M3

People think the *M* stands for motorsport. But as these cars get older it stands for *Money*

I had a rusty sunroof just like the one in the picture.
It was easily fixed with a good second hand sunroof painted to match. The rest of the car was sound.

But you look at most adverts for M3s around the 5/6k mark and they will say something like.....'car is in pretty good condition with only a bubble of rust under the windscreen and above the rear number plate'

To anyone that knows that means jesus h christ and about a grand to spend but if you dont know much about them and take the rest of the shiny car as a gauge then you will be shocked when the bills start rolling in.

There is actually alot to be said about that. I actually enjoyed driving my Evo2 more than my Sport Evo because of that reason. But it too is in the middle of a full restoration - not planned, just ended up that way. But although I am looking forward to getting it back, I think some of the enjoyment may go due to the fact it will be a minter when its done.

The Carbon airbox, etc may put pay to that though!

I think the problem is that the idiots out there on ebay (no disrespect to genuine, knowledgeable sellers) are so "hyped up" about anything with an M3 badge that they are now pushing rubbish cars to top money on the basis of somewhat imaginative descriptions. They seem to concentrate on the success of the M3 in general and avoid saying too much about the particular poor example they are selling. 5/6k seems to be the bottom line for these cars now if they are capable of forward motion. Personally I would buy an absolute minter of a 325 sport for the money and know that I wasn`t about to spend 10 grand trying to make a silk purse out of a sow`s ear.

Lyndonbuck and Paul are right though. Spend too much money on a car and what will you risk doing with it? I enjoy learning to drive the M3 on circuits and mountain roads. I have no interest in polishing it and telling people it is worth 10/15/20k.

that sums it up for me as well! I spray mine with a can because it's not worth to get it properly sprayed. If I spend that sort of money, I would have to sort out a few bits under the skin first to justify the expense. But I just don't like to end up with a years of work, 10k plus spent (and probably half of the work gets messed up by "specialists") and a car I don't dare to trash round a track because it mitght get stone chips.
Don't get me wrong, I would also appreciate if my car was a minter and spend the money to keep it decent.

But would the driving fun be different then? Don't think so.
