Hi all, seem to have another problem with power loss on my 530d, I previously had an air mass meter problem but a new air mass meter has been installed and ECU remapped and yes it runs much smoother and the acceleration from set off is much more reliable and sharp.

However every now and then, more now, the car loses all power and on winding down the window I cant hear the whistle of the turbo as I can when I have power back. Under hard acceleration I can here a buffeting noise from the engine area, I had the air flow pipe off and felt the turbo splines and they feel free enough, and there seems to be very little play either so I dont think the bearings are gone and the turbo sticking.

I wondered if the wastegate could be staying open a little, hence the buffeting noise and the loss of turbo boost pressure?

Anyone know what controls the wastegate, is it electrical/mechanical, could it be the EGR valve, whatever that is?, icon_confused.gif

Please, please help as I am realy sick of the problems I am having with this car, all I want is to drive it and enjoy it. icon_cry.gif

Because of this problem the other day on the motorway I couldnt get past 70mph with my foot to the boards!!!, yet a day later it was pulling like a train right through to 110mph and more (on private land mind!!!)

thanks in advance,

Hi me agin, had another thought on my problem, blocked catalytic converter, at low revs the car is better than ever, having had the air mass meter changed, but it is at speed or when accelerating hard that it lacks power, so I am thinking that maybe the catalytic converter has become blocked, this apparantly is a common fault at around 50 - 60k miles and especially when the car has been run with an over rich fuel mixture for a length of time, which mine has, while the airmass meter was faulty I only managed around 22mpg!!! What you think? feasable??

So I'm off to the BMW specialist to see what he thinks,
er???
