hi all, first post!. i've just bought a 1988 635csi. i'm wondering if it's a motorsport edition, i believe it to be a highline anyway as it has the full leather (seats, dash, headlinging, gear stick, handbrake) . when i went to view it i noticed the bodykit and the seller said "oh that's because it's a motorsport edition" he didn't mention this in his ad, in fact he didn't even mention the fact that it was a highline, everything else he told me was ok, the car came with an enormous one inch thick history file and even original bmw repair cd's (receipt from henry bros. for 80!) so i have no reason to doubt the chap, anyway if anyone can tell me hot to identify a motorsport edition or indeed can tell me fi this is one i would appreciate it. i have tried to upload some pics, don't know if it work!, thanks.  http://65.54.250.250/cgi-bin/getmsg/DSCF0004%2eJPG?&msg= 6AAA4C00-5E5E-4A5F-878B-B70838F2D035&start=0&len=166 9108&mimepart=4&curmbox=00000000-0000-0000-0000-0000 00000001&b=b90903641e88638176d4f662efc5d543&disk=10. 1.106.213_d3101&login=sergen100&domain=hotmail%2ecom &_lang=EN&country=UK&SafeRedirect=%26hm___ts%3d1 156783806%26hm___ha%3da5a955bfcfcc8b2173468794f0b1ad29

Pics link does not work.

As regards if your car is a Motorsport . Take down the last 7 digits of the chassis number and contact either BMW UK Customer Service or the local BMW Dealer and ask if option 129 was listed as an option on the specification of your car . I think the motorsports started in Jan 89 though.

Regards

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Unfortunatly your pics don't work. Maybe you should try hosting them on Flickr, then post a link on here using the   button. Failing that I'm sure one of us will post them up for you.

Is the chrome around the windows & grill (not kidneys) blacked out?

Are the bumpers body coloured?

Is the colour Misano Red/Nogaro Silver/Macau Blue?

Does it have a black roof lining?

If you can answer "yes" to these questions then you probably have a Motorsport Edition. I believe dechroming was available on standard cars so the colours are probably the best indication.

You should also have sports seats, an M-tech 1 steering wheel  & yellow Bilstein shocks though these could have been lost over time.

As Rob says, if you get a print-out of the cars spec sheet look for option 129 which was the Motorsport Edition pack.

Sounds like a normal highline to me, but hey that's not a bad thing! Look forward to you posting some pics up, see the FAQ section to see how to do it. Cheers

What is an interior headlight, other than those 2 lights that are meant to come on when you open the doors?

That's a very nice car - sounds like it has most of the
proper bits anyway (LSD, sports seats) and Brucey
is spot on - Alpina white with black leather is
stunning when it's all T-Cut and polished with the
green tint glass.

I've also got the options list of my Highline, and it's the same as yours except you have LSD (grrrr!), gradual tinted screen, and M-technic steering wheel, and mine has air-con, memory seats and additional capacity fuel tank.

PHB, the interior headlights refers to the interior adjustment for the headlights themselves. Mine don't work due to the pipes becoming brittle and shattering . Not that I'm intending to tow any caravans!

Not the one in this thread but my White one with black leather.  Yummy.  It's the second picture down with more further down the thread.
