Got to say that is one of the most glorious pieces of automotive porn I have seen for a while. I can understand the guy from Saudi offering £25k ( if thats true ) but without doubt if I had it to spare I would pay £15 to £18k for it.

It does indeed look magnificent. The whole thing about the guy from Saudi offering 25k sounds a bit fishy though. Surely he would have just made a lower offer if the owner didn't want to sell it for that much, which again if the procedes are going to charity sounds a bit strange. Surely he would be happy to get 25k for it Also no mention of any service history which is kind of important for for an ebay listing. Assuming it's genuine, then it looks like a great car and for anyone wanting to buy an E24 and having a wad of cash spare it sounds perfect. Edit: I've just looked at the pictures again and that passenger seat has definatley been sat in at some point and not just once or twice. Why would the seller claim that it has never been if it has?

Okay, I'll bite . . . A fan of 5 speed manuals, not-white 635s, and wheels that don't always require a skinny brush to clean 'em, I'd probably keep my cash. But being a short story writer, I do like the little tale (true or false, it's a real beaut!)

Erm... sorry to say it but I'd be really suspicious of this...
Very unusual to have unscrupulous buyers selling such unusual cars but that's not a reason to be more at ease. The description sounds _really_ fishy: No previous owners but not registered until '91?! And this strange trick (maybe someone can explain it for me as I see it alot with ebay auctions) of having the seller appoint an ebayer to do the dirty work. This always worries me as the winning bidder has a contract to purchase a car from someone who does not own it! Personally I would steer well clear of this and if I was looking with serious money for a classic BMW, go through one of the classic dealers. Also, the charity thing... is it a cover? A good couple of years by the sea will get that looking like it should! 2 things strike me: 1; Why did the chap who owns this car not sell it through a specialist? 2; Why does he leave it in neutral when its parked? That 'getting a friend to sell for you' trick is usually because the owner doesn't know how to use ebay, or a computer, or both - if he was 59 in 1990, he is 75 now, and I dont know too many people that have been collecting their pension for 10 years who know much about internet auctioning! The Saudi Arabia bit is clearly a load of crap, that is designed to stimulate potential buyers in thinking that the car is worth a few grand less than £25K - so 12-20 in other words. Who with any sense would include those bits of information anyway, if it was not designed to raise the price? For a car that has done 36,000 miles it actually looks a bit too clean IMHO. There is no dirt or rust at all, and that engine looks brand new. I think there would be more apparent wear - especially given the fact that this guy lived in Central London for years, and had an average journey of about 0.5 miles, with 100 gear changes per mile. You would definately need to inspect that car closely before you committed to it! But then thats my oppinion - whatever the story, thats a minter for sure, and its worth a lot for 6 - I'd love it! Also: The car in that picture is not in Belgravia, it is somewhere in the suburbs, or out of London completely. That might be because the friends live out, or he drove it somewhere nice for the picture - but then Belgravia is pretty darn nice i'd say, so why not photo it there. Edited by phb10186 |

Wow! The word "mint" is often over used but if those photos are anything to go by that is pretty much there. Looks genuine to me apart from the £25k offer - they could have been a bit more subtle! They even say no obligation or deposit until you have inspected it on collection - can't say fairer than that really! |

I'd be really careful if only because it's Ebay.
My worry would be is it stolen? A good check of the numbers would be called for. |

That white 635 in this much talked about auction looks exactly how it should; the ride height is perfect, and so are the wheels. Anyone thinking about fitting big rims on their 6 should look long and hard at this car. |

But if you're paying £10-15000 for this, a set of new
Metrix isn't going to worry you too much. I agree with PHB - this is exactly how it should look. No other wheel looks better on an E24 than a BBS X- Spoke. All that car needs is Oxblood red leather to be a truly wondrous thing. As for the legality of it - possession is nine tenths of the law. Obviously there are things you must do; When you view the car, ask to use the loo. Sounds daft but there's no better way of seeing if the guy with the keys also has keys to the house! This is the most common way of fleecing someone - the guy is outside in the drive leathing the car off , but it's not HIS house.......... That stuff about the car being serviced before collection. Hmmm - I wouldn't give the seller 10p until I can physically go and collect the car. You pay for it, it goes to Holland Park or wherever, never to be seen again. There IS something not quite kosher about this. |

Absolutely. As I said, why lie about something as simple as a the passenger seat never have been sat in. If he is lying about something so trivial what other porkies is he telling. That doesn't mean to say it isn't a good car though... |

Wait until the auction is over, and then contact the winning bidder, I am sure they will be happy to talk to chums from the 6 series technical forum.... If it reaches its reserve.
I will be surprised if it reaches £10K on there, but lets see... I will be happy to be quoted on this later. Edited by phb10186 |
