Having test-driven one in Australia, I wouldn't say "no" to THIS

One of those goes past my house every morning on the school run. Beautiful rumbly engine that can be heard from about a mile away.

Gorgeous car...

I see a red one everyday, or at least I did when I dropped my wife off at work.

Not sure there's only 50 in the country though.

Very nice car and I would have on in a flash if I could afford one.

The one in York is red also. I noted the reg and looked it up on the RAC site and that confirmed what it was.

There is definately something about the V8 engine....growls at you

Would'nt like to have a guess how much the road tax would cost here. Seen it on top gear looked fun to drive but the way petrol prices are going up would cost a wee bit to keep her topped up.

I don't quite see how it's an alternative to a 6 series though.  It's a completely different type of car and I don't know of any 6-series owner who'd look at a VXR, or vice versa.  Different markets, different buyers.

See, a good friend of mine has gone from an M3 Cab to a Monaro VXR.  They're not a GT cruiser like a 6 is, they're much more of a 3/5 series inbetween sized racer.

On the subject of RFL, it just falls into the top bracket £190/£210 depending on the date of registration.

There are a lot more than 50 in the country though - for a start there were 100+ of them at a recent Monaro VXR meet in Brighton!

My friends has been highly tuned too, with a straight through exhaust and 100 cell race cats, uprated cams and god knows what else - it's putting out a little over 465bhp.

Very loud, very fast - and very very very thirsty (read 13mpg).

The only thing I'd add, about that advertisement - don't be fooled into thinking a standard Monaro VXR gives you E60 M5 performance - because it certainly doesn't.

They're powerful, but traction is an issue, as is weight.

My friends tuned VXR will still be outran by an E60 M5 on a straight (I've been sat in it when it's happened!).

I witnessed a youngish bloke in his 130 M sport be seriously embarrassed by an E60 M5. It was a perfect example of the difference between a fast car and a very fast car. If you want M5 peformance from a Monaro VXR you need to go down the forced induction route. 500 bhp + is easilly attainable.

ah the monaro, the modern day equivalent of the legendary lc, and the only new vauxhall that i really fancy having in the garage

i looked into getting one (the original 5.7, not the 6.0 vxr) but couldn't afford the £20k they were secondhand at the time (last September)

Heard what I thought was the red one coming down the road just now...the engine didn't quite sound right though...

Took a look at it as it went by and its been traded in for another equally growling car....I knew it was same owner cos the plate has been transferred to the new toy

He now has a very nice, well doctored black Nissan R34-GTR Skyline....luverly jubberly

I should have clarified this by writing "alternative to an E24 6-Series"....
