i would like to know if any1 else has experienced as interesting drive to france as i did 3 weeks ago. thursday everything started off great got ferry at 7:30 to holyhead. motoring down the m6, went thru toll booths and started losing power, stuck on side of road for 1 hour brought to bmw dealer near belfry. there for 4 hours as they did the bis, fuel pump went. missed ferry to calais. should have took 3 1/2 hours to get to dover, didnt stop fed kids mcd from drive through, nothing for myself, took 5 hrs. friday, started off at 10:00 am from bethune 50mins outside calais. hit paris at 12:00, van hit me at 2:30pm checked quickly if boot worked, did so left it, later found that bike rack damaged, my bike damaged, and more dents in boot. got through paris at 4:30pm. kept going, wife telling me to slow down as car didnt feel safe, dropped to 80m/hr. felt tired and let dw drive for a while, fell alseep and woke up in traffic jam at lomoges for 1 hr. got to camp site at 11:00 pm 4 hors later than should have been. emplacement not safe told courier that we were to be changed next day. 30ft drop at 45° angle not far from where car stopped. left car in gear because of kids safety. saturday, met courier he told me that there was nothing available, and would review at 3:00pm that day. yaking stuff out of car and it started to roll downhill when i closed door. damage, front bumper gone, front shocks, radiator, radiator went into timing belt, and that went into something else, french mechanic said that the car is in sound condition otherwise and engine is perfect. it is being shipped home by freight with the wine and beer in it. anyone who has a similar tale of woe post here. u would be more like if it was you. but i even have to laugh at it, when i am not reliving it going down the hill but with some child in front of it. that is the only saving grace, afterall the car is a bit of metel at the end of the day, it can be replaced but a life cant.

What a nightmare - if you made a film of all that, nobody would believe
it. I admire your ability to keep looking on the bright side - no loss of life or serious injury. Could have been a lot worse. Hope you get the motor sorted out. |

Lucky and unlucky at the same time. If that was in a film the car would have burst into flames.

the best one now is that the car is written off and the insurance will only give me a max amount of €11000. they say that that is what it would cost me to replace the car. going to have some fun with this. will have to go through the ifsra regarding this.
total joke. |

According to the VRT calculator, a December 2000 manual e39 2.0 (1991cc) SE spec is worth E16,218.
On carzone, '00 520's with 100k+ mileage range from E8,500 to E12,950. '00 520's there (mileage not taken into account) range from E8,500 to E21,750. Ask your insurance company where they got their figure. |
