Topic: Have I been caught speedind? Posted: 28-June-2006 at 09:24 |
Hi All,
This morning I was doing nearly 50mph in a 40 zone when I noticed a bike cop with a hand held device further down the road. Do they pull you over or just send you a fine through the post if you are caught with a hand held one? (I know they send you a fine through the post when you've been caught with a camera on a tripod but thought it might be different with a hand held.)
Also, he didn't seem to fiddle with the camera as I went past (don't know if they have to or not), he just lowered it and waited for the next unsuspecting poor sod!
Please ease my mind!
Cheers

Usually if they are roadside with a radar gun they pull you over as there is no picture to prove registration of the car etc therefor they need to stop you for you to sign the pink slip.
Unfortunately speaking from experience plus i think 50 in a 40 is usually border line so think you're Scot free
Fingers crossed

Sorry to worry you but scamera bikes wont chase you down for that, a NIP will arrive in the post....50MPH on your speedo will be 40ish summat MPH so as said above marginal, depends what trigger speed that particular county operates at.
A picture is not essential to gain a prosecution.
Let us know how you get on

ACPO guidelines state that prosecution is recommended at 10% of the posted limit + 2 mph (46 in a 40) but, as with all offences, it is up to the officers discretion

Well, he was there again this morning and he'd pulled someone over, so I'm guessing I got away with it.
Oh, and I was only doing 40 this morning - who said speed cameras don't work - ahhh, what am I saying!!!!!!
