Oh yes ?

And just filled it up again after getting 450 miles out of a tank!

Sorry this isn't technical but I just thought I'd share it with you (I bet nobodies probably interested )

Anyway - Been doing a fair bit of travelling recently and after being careful on the motorways and around town, I've found that V8 530 is actually proving to be one of the most economical bm's I've ever owned - really it is !

I reset the obc and kept the fuel consumption on the dash, made a few trips back and to, to York (180 round trip) and when I eventually filled her up, the obc showed that it averaged at 33.6mpg and I had 466 miles from the tank - and without the petrol light on (and yes - the light does work! )

Remember that this is a 93 530 V8 auto - which is stuck it Sport mode (getting looked at next week)

I tend to drive with the 'real time BMW MPG thingy' on about 30mpg and I can get speeds from about 65mph to 80mph - depending on the gradient of the motorway/road etc.

It goes to show that if you drive them carefully go can get quite a lot from the old girl

Think I my keep this one for a while

466 miles is good going especially in sport mode!!! and being a V8.

I must admit i have never filled my 528i up and then driven it until the light comes on but i think i get around 350 ish out of mine with combined driving so 466miles out of a tank is great!

I might try it now.....(need to get out more!)

I shouldn't push it really to the light as the picture at the bottom of my sig shows me running out of petrol the day I picked it up

Anyhoo - I've tend to always drive to when the light comes on - I do a fair bit of business miles each year and I should have a diesel mondeo or something! - but I just love the BM's and trying to get the most/best out of them!

as Clarkson said, "a new game, petrol light roulette - wait until the petrol light comes on then aim for the petrol station furthest away, then repeat - if it works then you'll end up at home with an empty tank and your wife will have to fill it up if she wants to use the car, the downside is you may run out of petrol in the middle of nowhere"

or words to that effect anyway

since the clarkson episode i have become muh more frugal in my driving, at times i still have heavy right foot but generally just keep an eye on the mpg dial and try to keep it between 30 - 50.

one thing clarkson said that when slowing down keep the car in gear as it uses less fuel than clutching and free wheeling.

84 !!!!!Is that due to the M having the larger fuel tank?

Normally it's about 65 to fill mine up when completly empty - a bit cheaper now as Tesco's are doing the 5p off a litre promotion

And yep, it was a big old Audi - I wish they would repeat that episode.

It did have a few tips about saving fuel - like speeding up before aproaching inclines and turning off the computer/aircon etc.

you can download it from here

http://www.finalgear.com/shows/topgear/4/4/

in fact you can download all the episodes from here, and 5th gear too:

http://www.finalgear.com/shows/topgear/

http://www.finalgear.com/shows/fifthgear/

hover over the episode titles to get a description of their contents, you'll need a BitTorrent client to download them, I recommend "BitTornado":

Its a long range steel tank (so says the local main dealer) either was an option or was fitted as standard because of the larger accidents you can have in a M car.

I have to really struggle to get my E34 540 to give me 300 miles on a tank, although that isn't just motorways. Is the 530 THAT much more fuel efficient or is mine broken??
