Topic: Rubber question Posted: 21-June-2006 at 22:31 |
My sister in law just had 4 new Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres fitted to her
Boxster. It had Pirelli's on it already and it only needed 2 back tyres. (fronts
had 10k left in them).
The guy in the tyre garage said he could not put the new back ones on
without changing the fronts to match because they are a new design. He
said the new back tyres are not compatible with the old fronts which were P
zero's but not Rosso's. Is this right or was she ripped off? Seems a bit stupid
to me. (and expensive) I would understand if the old ones were a different
brand.

Sounds like total rubbish to me... you can have headaches with different tyres between front and back but thats generally different brands etc... where you've got bad up front and good down back or vice versa but not with same brand!! Thats just robbing... I'd say if someone went back down looking for second hand tyres with those measurements they'd be offered them!!! after they sold her new ones.

You won't ever notice the difference until you push the car. Less grip
on the front and more on the back just means understeer, not a bad
thing really for day to day use and to stay safe.

Maybe right if they meant different tyres on either side - not back and front.
Does sound dodgy - trying it on methinks..

Sounds like bull - front and back different isn't a massive problem - it's different on each side that causes problems.
