I think it had teething problems at Cadwell.

My Milltek has always sounded rubbish, but before that it had a Scorpion
and anyone who says that they are OK must be completely deaf and drive
like a coffin dodger. They are rubbish on an E30 M3, but might be fine on
other cars? Car drives much better now, revs and pulls much more cleanly,
but its still way too loud, why can't someone make a reasonable (£500)
exhaust that fits, lasts, works and is quiet? Is it really that difficult? Must be I
guess

Development - most companies can`t be bothered with it, orcant be bothered in doing it properly especially when sales will be limited on such a limited edition car - it keeps the cost down. BMW of course developed the E30 M3 exhaust - hence the cost 8-).

I dont thnk anybody feels its a poor system in terms of the gaining power. As I see it, theres 2 main issues.

1)Fitment (IMO just needs the pipe that comes from the centre box to have more of an angle before the rear box. And raise the centre box slightly)

2) Build Quality (Welds really)

Shame, as with a bit of work on those details would become standard fit for all E30's. Having said that, aren't the S14's buzzy characteristics quite harsh on stainless steel?

I don't think anyone from Milltek comes on the forum - but here is their link http://www.millteksport.com/

Call them, explain the problem, and - if you are the original purchaser - they will probably replace the part FOC.

I've had one fitted for ages to my E30 M3, as it was an early design I had a couple of problems with the centre box, but they replaced it both times with no problem.

The first time they fitted it for me, the 2nd time they sent the new part to the Exhaust Specialist of my choice within 2days!

I like it, yes it's a bit buzzy, but it isn't noisy, and in keeping with the car -

If oyu have issue with speed bumps etc get some "rub strips" welded on, i had this issue, and had two lengths of flat bar welded to the bottom of each silencer, with a lead in to each. stopped all my porblems of regular "patch ups and cracking".

Lower grade stainless will rust. it also means its less prine to fatigue. normally a decent wall thickness, and a higher grade stainless stop this, but alot of aftermarket places, especially in stainless save here, and use a thn walllower grade. It works for most people, but the quality isnt generally what people expect.

I welded a Scorpoin back box and it was thin like paper!
But even the well praised EISENMANN uses only 304 SS. I was a bit disappointed by my fellow contrymen when I read that in the paperwork. They are asking for good money and one would wish they use the best material.

@check it out, you are dead right what you saying!

well again, if you want to have a job done decent........

I have banged on abut my friend russell who works for longlife before. indeed they were victim/ at fault with this as well. They also had a large batch of backbox's that just blew through, leaving you a hollow box in a short period of time.

My friend russell i trust. Every actual company i do not. If you need any stainless repairs or a decent system find his details on my site. the quality varies alot, but stress to the person who is going to custom make your system what you want and read the small print.

Russell is forever removing mass produced systems like this and for this very reason. You get what you pay for.

Oh i have sent the picture, and they are more than
happy to replace the whole rear section that includes
the rear box. Only issue is they are 4 weeks plus,
away from having any in stock!

They have said they will repair mine free of charge,
and have it back within 24hrs.

Why has noone mentioned or recommended Supersprint?! I decided to go for one of these as I had read all the problems people were having with the Miltek.

I fitted it to my Cecotto. It was about £450 for backbox and centre section, fitted perfectly, sounded great and in the 12k miles I had it not one problem, I even gained a little bit of power. The one I fitted (I think) was the mild stainless version but afaik was TUV approved, I thought it was great.

See a result - of sorts. I'm not really surprised they haven't any on the shelf, after all E30 M3's aren't as common as - say - a Golf.
