what the best gearbox oil for a 1987 m3 as having rear seal changed as leaking and was just wondering what oil to put in . is there any special sort to use ????

Russ who rebuilds the gearboxes for Moseleys told me to use BMW stuff
from the dealers or Total BV, DONT use any synthetic oils or it will wear
like ....

Motul Gear 300 75w90 has been recommended on here and s14.net, ive got some ready to go in but need to change the gaskets first

Later models run on ATF! If you've a 'sticky' change then try 1/2 & 1/2 - bit noisier, but a lot slicker movement!!

Run ATF in the track car, no problems to date  and makes the shifts smoother.
