E39 Window Regulator

   Hi all - i hope you can help me with a problem. My old man has a 2000 facelift E39 with a drivers window that doesn't work. The mirror works fine so its not the keypad in the door (i;ve also tried mine as i have an E39 too). We stripped the door thinking its the motor, but it looked complicated so an autoelectrician we know has said he'd swop the motors (as we have a new one) for �40. BUT he said it stands a good chance of being the regulator..... Never heard this before so any ideas..... Where is the regulator and is it more common for one of these to go rather than the motor.....
