Had some spare time and some nice weather today so thought I'd try the new Meguiars clay bar out....also popped the AEs on and debadged cos the old badge was in the wrong place and peeling off!
Bonnet and boot were clay barred after being washed and dried then polished using old faithfull colour magic then zymol'ed, buffed-off then wet and dried off. John |

John, You may end up living to regret saying that - you may get a long line of cars needing polishing, mine does now the bonnet has been done Paul |

Got the Meguiars clay bar but I'm not sure if it's any better or different to using the Meguiars Body Scrub or Paint Cleaner.

Is that clay bar the stuff you use to get paint and tar spots off your car?

No I don't......reversings never been easier and nobody parks near my rear end anymore for fear of the scud-like protrusion from the rear end.
Oh I havent got round to zymoling the towbar yet!!! Clay bar is meant ot remove 'bonded contaminants'. Not sure what they are but it got rid of all the swirls and the paintwork felt as smooth as glass. easy enough to do too. |

Try Halfords bug & tar remover first-this gets rid of loads of stuff though you do need to use your thumb nail too!!
The stuff I got was Meguiars Quick Clay and cost about £12 IIRC again from Halfords. John |

Your car looks amazing! I agree. Try the bug and tar or use a spray lubricant. Whatever you do, you might want to follow up with wax. I am in the process of claying my black E46. From all the research I have done the claying is the first step. In addition to that I am using 2 polishes (in sequence), a molecular agent (FMJ), a finishing glaze and then wax. It is a real time consumer. Thus far the results are great. BUT, the over-spray from aircraft painting (white specks all over my car) are not coming off. I am using a very fine clay at the moment. The Meguiars did a great job but on the dark paint it was a little rough. Make sure to keep the surface wet & wet. I mixed a solution of P21S car shampoo (3 drops) and alot of water in a spray bottle. Works well as a clay lubricant. I bought all the products from a company in New York and they have a great site full of instructions. http://www.detailedimage.com/howto.html Additionally there is the DIY section here http://www.bimmerdiy.com/diy/detailing I found both of these helpful and as soon as the fires die down here I plan to finish the car. One more thing. Don't drink beir while you are doing this . The voice of experience talking here. Edited by FloridaBMW |
