Topic: 4 pot callipers Posted: 28-April-2006 at 05:35 |
Saw these advertised on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=805 9973046&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
thought about them for my 320is as breaking is a bit woeful since I played with the engine.
Good or bad idea.

They look good.
Check out godspeedbrakes, I was pretty impressed with their product line when I was in aflap about my calipers, they seem to have pretty good alternatives (haven't heard of WMS).

Something to be aware of maybe is that some lightweight cnc'd calipers require regular rebuilds (I may be wrong). Cast iron road jobbies don't need this.
Not a problem if you like spannering!

I've been umming and arghing for months now about a brake upgrade. I have bought a 25mm BMC and braided hoses hoping that this would give me the extra firmness and bite i'm looking for, or will 4 pots be the only way i can get this car to stop well!

As a fellow 320iS driver... did U already rebuild the current (stock)
brakes? That might be a tremendous improvement already. Combined with
good fresh brake fluid, good pads and maybe steel braided brake hoses
that should make a set of brakes that are quite ok for street (and
occasional track day) use.
For this brake conversion... never heard of the brand and they only
offer EBC pads which are not my favourites... if I'm going to do a
brake upgrade I'll make sure to use a 'known' brand... at least I'll
have more chance to get a rebuild kit in a few years... and have a
choice of decent pads as well. Relatively cheap but quite reliable are
the big brake kits from Wilwood, that would be the cheapest set I'd
consider fitting.

I am considering rebuilding my calipers as well, the 2 options i am looking at are:
1. rebuild my exsisting callipers and fit braided hoses plus 25mm BMC.
2. fit a 'big brake kit' with 4 pots(i have the Wilwood catalogue as well as bembos, hyspec and AP racing)
To be honest i am leaning more towards the rebuild option as i think 4 pots might be a bit of overkill for what i use it for and i reckon my brakes fully refurbed with the extra bits added will give me what i want, plus its a hell of alot cheaper!

Have you looked in the BMW parts bin? I am going to use E32 calipers for the M3.
You will also ruin your wheel offset with 4 pots (or other rims at all) to clear the two outside pistons.

Must say these calipers look like Wilwood replicas...
As suggested by Jeroen I would first rebuild my calipers etc. You'll be amazed what a difference it makes and if you are still not satisfied look for other options.

A properly sorted E30 M3 is still 'King of the Ring'
