Used the BM today to go to work and guess what, I got pulled by the police on the mway! This time for having no insurance!!!!!!

Spent 20mins trying to convince them I have insurance and them telling me I haven’t, fun! Then they told me my Tax was ilegally 'placed' in the windscreen!

Let me go in the end with another producer!

What a wonderful system they have for checking details.

Glad to see the fight against crime is in good hands!?!

Rant over!!!!!!

(sorry if theres any police persons on here, its not what i want to do first thing in the morning going to work!)

its on the right because of LHD but i have been informed that this is illegal as the police cannot see it. People with something to hide put it on the right!?!

I have been told to move it or i'll get fined next time!

I had mine on the wrong side to , and was pulled by the police as they couldn't see it as i went round a roundabout , by the time he pulled me over he told me i was failing to display road tax and not that i didn't have any , so he had obviously got me checked out during the pursuit.

He did tell me that it should still be on the left hand side even though the car was lhd , but that was all , let me go on my merry way then.

cheers

Andy

I've got mine behind the interior mirror and if any copper complains about its placement I simply point out that I am maximising my visibility by removing any uneccessary objects from my field of view.

If they argue then they are trying to make me make the car more dangerous.

It also has the benefit of keeping the little bit of sun out of my eyes that the sun visors can't catch.

I've been pulled 5 times this year and I've been offshore for 6 weeks of that.

1, In Manchester, was going quite quick and was pulled by Van. Checked details and sent me on my way. Pleasent chap.

2, Same night in Cumbria. Pulled 'cause he couldn't see my number plate due to the salt on the roads. As he was explaining this my details came through his radio! It couldn't have been too difficult to read for him to hve my details checked. Got a producer.

3, 2 weeks later pulled by a panda car bcause he thought I was goinga bt quick. No evidence of this. Got a producer.

4, Pulled by Lancashire Traffic on the M.Way. Followd me for 10 mins aparanty, but as it was dark I didn't see him. SAsked if I had cruise control as I was doing asteady 88-89. Got let off.

5, Got pulled in to a Ministry check point after white van man cut me up on the roundabout. Cocky Knobber asked what happened on the roundabout... "He was obviously in the wrong F***ing lane wasn't he!" was my reply. Go another producer!

Sick of it.

I am sure that many years ago I read that there is a specific spot on the windscreen that the tax disk should be placed.

Something like 4"  (yes it was that long ago) from the bottom of the windscreen and 2" inward from the pillar.

And on the left hand side of the car.

Karl

Could be worse, think about the old lady that got fined for crossing the road too slowly.

I was stopped in my Europa once at 3am (after a Sat night out) I dont drink atall if I am driving, so get landed sometimes as a taxi! Just dropped my mates off and was heading back home. I saw a police car comming upto the roundabout I just went round and I saw him in my mirrors, he drove past the roundabout, then turned round and gave chase to me. I pulled over and got out. The copper came upto me and said "Is that a real one?"  "Oh, sorry, you havn't done anything wrong, I just wanted to have a look" and we were there chatting about 15 minutes, shook my hand and said goodnight! Real nice chap!

I've got my tax disc on the 'wrong' side too, as has been said, if I get pulled and anything is mentioned about it, then I argue that it is hampering my vision!

The law for the location of the tax disc comes from when it was first introduced, so the bobby on the beat could read it easily enough from the roadside.

The tax is placed on the nearside of the car so that any traffic warden/police office can read it without having to step foot in the road!!

I have not been pulled over in my own car since 1992 when I had an RS Turbo, I was pulled over simply because the copper wanted to have a look too, as he was thinking of getting one - He was quite pleasant, should have told him he had a side light out though!

Thanks for that Jonny, I live in Stone and use both these roads regularly. What's the crack with silver cars now, the police seem to be getting more and more of them? I've seen a silver one series in Stafford with police stripes but no top light (sneaky in the rear view mirror).
