Hi, I'm made a few post on here but no one has seen my 6 before so here it is. Its an '88 Highline with 104K. Dolphin Grey/Lotus White Leather, dechromed, LSD. I've recently had all the rust cut out and new metal welded in. (front offside wing, both rear wheel arches, rear nearside section under tailight and a little bit below the number plate). I've also just had the exhaust manifold off as it was blowing like a b@stard! One of the studs was already snaped in the head but my mechanic (god bless him) managed to build it up with weld and get it out saving me a head off job. It now sounds like a dream! Much as I love the wheels my front tyres are pretty shot so maybe its time to go imperial. I'm favouring BMW type 32s at the minute but if anyone has a reasonable pair of TRXs that would get me by then PM me with a price. Shem |

Classy colour, Dolphin Grey. Your car looks really good in the photos.
Not sure how similar Nogaro Silver is. In some photos it looks as dark as Dolphin, other times it's nearly as light as Lachs Silver. |

Thanks Andy. Yes Nogaro is very similar depending on the light. you would need to get them side by side to make a real comparison. The Dolphin Grey in the photos initially came out quite dark with a bit of blue in it but when I processed them through a proper colour workflow they became more accurate with the actual colour. I think the first photo is slill a little too blue plus the reflections make the rear wing look nackered! |

You want to try photographing Misano Red! I don't think I've got two photos the same shade
I love the two tone dash you get with a light leather interior. Mine's all black which makes it very dark inside (especially with the Motorsport black headlining). White must be a bugger to keep clean though! |

If you have something that you know is pure white in the photograph you can use this to get rid of colour casts using any decent photograph editing software. That will help to get a more accurate red. Also photographing light colour interiors is always easier than dark and black is the worst especially when you use flash, its picks up every spec and nick and highlights it! this is my first car with light interior and I really like it. It feels airy and calming. The windows also have a medium tint which takes the glare of the interior when viewed from the outside. It works well with the body colour too. |

Looks fantastic, especially the top photo. It looks almost like charcoal black on my screen!! I will be going through the same process of rust elimination this summer, in pretty much the same places you mention. Was it a pricey job to get it cut out and replaced? Am thinking going to a restoration specialist will be pricey but worth it in the long run as I'm (hopefully) going to keep the car for a while.. Have got the white lotus leather too, mine is great in the front but the backs seats are crazed and look a bit poo up close, but fantastic in any photo!! |

Groupie? I must be just behind you! The rust work cost me £750+VAT but that was a 'best price' through a mate of mine who sells Porsches and therefore puts a fair bit of business their way. It was a good job though. The leather in the back of mine is fine, maybe it was kept out of the sun or something. The driver seat looks slightly grubby, like someone has sat on it with dirty clothes but its really subtle. The outside seat bolster is remarkably good but maybe its has had a bit of restoration at some point. I think the colour looks like it will be a nightmare but is reality its not that bad (I've not own it long enough to really know). Nearly everyone comments on its condition when they first get in. They probably expect a 17 year old car with near white leather to be minging |

Gliptone's Liquid Leather is good for cleaning & the conditioner really makes the leather supple again.
Smells great too! |

Nice car Shem, my car has lotus leather which is also in good condition but was a bit grubby on the front seats, on advise from my local leather upholsterer I used a liquid leather cleaner, ( not cream ) and used a nail brush to bring the dirt out of the leather & then finished with a conditioner. You might think a nail brush is a bit course for leather especially white but try it you will be pleasantly surprised. |

I tried liquid leather (cleaner and condition), it is very good at drawing all the dirt from the leather and softening it, as long as the leather is generally in good condition. It has given my front seats, doorskins etc a nice boost, however has actually made the back ones worse by drawing dirts into the cracks - they are now dark which makes them much more obvious in the white leather. Just a word of warning!!! I think i will have to get some new back seats / recover them at some point

not sure what you mean about the dirt getting onto your back seats but as I say b y using a nail brush you can remove the dirt from all the cracks & when you finish with a conditioning food the leather plumps up & you should find that most of the cracks disapear.

Before cleaning the seats looked OKish with light coloured cracks, however when "agitating" the cleaner, I could see quite a bit of dirt coming out of the leather (solution went murky grey!). When I wiped this off the actual leather looked better but the cracks still had dirt and looked much darker, making them more obvious. The conditioner did make the healthier leather a lot (looked richer) however did not help the cracks. I will try the process again (maybe they are just very dirty?), maybe a bit more agressively as I was quite careful with the brush. Although I did notice last time some flakes of white stuff coming off, which obviously it shouldn't, was thinking maybe someone had put that horrid filler stuff in at some stage.... |

Connolly Hide Food's quite good. I get mine from one of the local saddlers. Works well on the seats of my '83 car. £8.50 a tub, though.... |

I'll go easy with the Liquid Leather when I get it. Test it out of a small
section. Has anyone ever taken the front seats apart? mine are a bit creaky but I don't know whether I should just live with it . Also the seat heating does not work in the base of the drivers seat although the back is ok. Again is this something that is easy to fix? |
