Breaking the 69 today. Sad v sad but at least the parts will keep others on
the road. Bonnet doors and bootlid to the 68, front bumper and seats
donated to the 72 Touring and the complete dash is finding a home in the
70 Cabriolet. I will keep the rest of the interior as its mint. Also the engine
and gearbox with the prop. Engine's only done 45,000 miles and the
gearbox has been rebuilt.

Oh dear, the heat has been turned up. Ive just comitted the 68 to the
Bavarian Tour in June. My good friend Alistiar has offered to drive whilst I
take the 72 Touring. A bit more welding, new front inserts should see it to
Munich, oh dear, gulp! Must fix the leaking petrol tank and change the fuel
pump and sort out that 5 star cover....

Anyone else going to Bavaria?

Wow another Granada red early 02. They get under your skin don't they?
Check out www.wallothnesch.com for your parts they seem to be the best
on price at the moment. I always compare prices with BMW Mobile
Tradition - Jaymic and W&N to see who comes up cheapest. (And it varies)
Wouldn't mind seeing some photo's of your car.
My 68 is ready now for the MOT test which is next week and hopefully go
straight through. I had to swap the carb as the old one was worn. I had a
grotty looking one knocking around and it worked perfectly. Frustratingly
I had just fitted a new gasket set in the worn one.
The exhaust was a saga - but to sum up. the system perviously on there
was all post 71. I tracked down a complete pre 71 system but it turned
out the manifold had been changed also to a post 71. Stumped! Early
down pipe won't fit on later manifold! So a bit of cut & shut and the
batardised post 71 down pipe now fits the correct centre and rear box.
Job done! Phew..
Next job is to strip down the 69 auto and swap the better doors and
bootlid onto the 68... oh and to finish putting together the 72 Touring in
time for the Bavarian run this June. Departure AM on the 12th from Dover
- Calais then Munich - anyone fancy a trip to Munich and back? I missed
the meet in 2002 and I am determined not to miss this one. There are
over 250 02's pre booked plus those who will turn up on the day. Should
be a good fun!

All the best, Mcdaddy

1968 2002, 'the shed' is nearly there. The exhaust being a last minute
hiccup. With a bit of detective work it seems the car has a mix of wrong
exhaust parts. From modified down pipe to a later centre and back box. Now
all parts identified. The correct full system now sourced. Many thanks to
Alex at Walloth & Nesch and Robert & Fay at Jaymic. New castle nuts on the
rear hubs now means the car is back on its wheels brakes bled. New front
dics, pads, hoses, handbrake cables, rear drums and shoes, D/S wishbone,
carb gasket set, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, heater hose (bulkhead/
manifold) both front floorpans weled up, plugs and points is all it took to
get it roadworthy! Now for the reshell. Well perhaps next year!!

Mcdaddy - I have 25 on the Register (although difficult to keep up to date without members input) so who acutally knows. I hope we'll see you "early birds" at Brands Hatch on the 20/21st May? Rich. Keep 02ing.

Just wondering how many pre 71 02's there are out there at the moment?
Getting my 68 "the shed" roadworthy again for some summer fun.
I keep getting caught out by differences between the pre 71 and post 71
ordering parts. rear drums are 200mm and not 230mm as all other 2002's.
Centre axhaust different also. Should be on the road next week and then to
find new doors. Luckily I've got a 69 to break with decent doors. in the same
faded Granada red. I dont think theres a straight panel on the 68 and it has
definatly been on its roof at some point. I know I can hear you saying why
bother! Well I'm a sucker for an underdog and it is chassis number 036.

Lord help me, Mcdaddy
