I have been informed the leather on Highlines is a lot thinner than earlier sixes, hence the seats in these seem to wear quicker and are more susceptable to sunlight damage etc.

What makes you think that? -looking at the ETK suggests that the change to 'highline' spec production occurred 6/87.

That looks like an amazing car for £2500!

As for M30's - mine has done 249'210 miles, never
had the head off although it's had regular 6000 mile
oil and filter changes all it's life. That's around 41 oil
changes, or 235 litres (@ 52 gallons) of oil through
it's system not counting top ups!

Clean oil is the key. There's a 1987 520i E28 on
Ebay with around 330k right now.
