The fuel gauge on my E30 M3 isn't working. The warning light does come on when the fuel gets low but the actual gauge doesn't work.

Has anyone any idea on how I could rectify this?

Many Thanks,

D.

Forgive me if this isn't relevent to the E30 M3

but what we used to do was remove the wire from the sender unit and with the ign on touch it to earth , the gauge should then go right over to full ,this shows the gauge and the wiring to it etc is ok and the sender unit is faulty .

Cheers, I must check to see if this is the problem.

Is it much hassle & cost to replace this sender unit if it is the problem?

Thanks

I managed to find out what the problem was - its a severe case of ridiculously expensive petrol!  Doh!!!

I thought there was a problem with my gauge as it was sitting very low, I put in a tenner of fuel and the needle didn't budge one bit. Then the next day, with very little driving in-between, I stuck another tenner in the next day - still didn't budge.  But then I was at a petrol station that was nearly 10p a litre cheaper than my usual rip-off one and stuck in £20 and it actually moved a good bit. Problem solved!
