Thinking about fitting a more powerful battery.  Just looking at the Varta website, it shows a battery for the Ti which is rated at 50Ah & 540A cold test current (the standard is 40Ah & 360A cold).

Any idea why they should specify this battery as only suitable for the Ti, as opposed to the single carb, Tii & Turbo?

If I fitted one of these batteries to my single carb 02 am I likely to start a fire, i.e. burn out the wiring to the starter motor?  Or do anything else unpleasant?  Thanks.

There shouldn't be any problems fitting a high current battery, the Tii & Turbo's had a higher rated one as it had addition electric fuel pump. The Wiring loom etc is all the same. However, your alternator might need updating to the Tii/Turbo high current rated one, so it keeps the battery in top condition. The Regulator makes sure that it doesn't over charge it. You also can fit early E28 alternators I think it's mentioned on the www.bmw2002faq.com site. I did feature this years ago might have it somewhere. Rich.
