    Posted: 28-February-2006 at 18:47

Got a problem with my CD system. Everytime I select the mode to CD the system reads no disc, even though there is a CD in all six compartments.

The CD system reads the CD lens cleaner that I had used and sometimes reads some CD's. But then the same CD it was reading would stop working.

Someone suggested to me that it could be my magazine.

Anyone got any ideas to what the problem might be?

Cheers

I have tried it with brand new CDs as well as cleaning the old ones. The problem is that they wok the first time you put them in but then after a while they stop working

The CD's that I have tried are originals as well as CD-R. The BMW standard CD changer is not CDRW compatible.

if the cd player has had a lot of use the laser will be out of spec.
If your handy with a soldering iron and dont mind taking things apart you can fix a bust cd player for about £20-40.
classic symptoms are cd's taking a long time to load. skipping and as the thing gets worse it wont read discs.

laser can be ordered from www.cpc.com

my auto changer has been fine since i replaced my laser

Sorry cpc.co.uk

I cant remember the part number. But if your feeling brave take your unit apart and have a look on the optical picup (laser).

I must warn you they are not the easyiest things to replace.

If you do decide to tackle the replacment, Some manufacturers of lasers will put blobs of solder on the ribbon cable thats connected to the unit. they are there to prevent damage from static during transit and must be removed!!!!
Also when dis assembling the cd player make sure you put the screws back in the places they came out of the unit. when I put my machine back together I put 1 screw back in the wrong place and it prevented the discs from spinning round.

Good luck
