735i tyres

   Hi all, I recently bought a 1988 735i se, runs really well however the steering is quite stiff, have checked fliud levels on power steering all seems ok. But i have concerns about the tyre sizes as far as i can tell it has original wheels wearing 440/15 tyres. As these are crappy remouldes i need a new set. Are these correct sizes? thanks.

	I meant 240/15 not 440/15 doh!

	No wonder the steering would be stiff on rims that phat Might look cool though with wheels like that plus a starsky and hutch paint job - maybe you should track down some 440's after all

	Don't you mean 240/45 x 415? They are TRX metrics & cost around �200 each. The grip is evil in damp conditions. Easier option is to get some 15" wheels off an E34 with 225/60 x 15 tyres. You'll never look back (or out the side window as you try to correct the massive oversteer!).

	On closer Inspection Andy they are indeed 240/45x415, ( difficult to see as the walls are worn). Im assuming that these are correct then? The steering just feels stiff and heavy and �200 quid a tyre just plain scares me to death!

	Don't mean to be funny, but wouldn't you be better of buying a replacement set of wheels and tyres of somewhere like ebay?? Those metric sizes are just a pain.

	I got a set of mint 17" Style 32's from an E39 Sport & slapped on a new set of Goodyear F1's. What a difference. It steered better, rode better & gripped better. That lot cost about a grand but of course you can do it much cheaper by going for 15" wheels & tyres. Try some of the BMW breakers like Fritzs Bits etc. You'll be impressed.
