Well i am 29 this year and have been driving a five series for the last 4 years ,i had a e34 525 24v before the e39. I dont think they are old man's car's and anyone who says that are only jealous! I have noticed a pattern in our answers we are all between 25-30yrs(with only a few being the exception! ) What does that mean then?

You should indeed, and I suggest you drop that old worthless M5 off at an address in Worcester, I'll give you a lift to the train station to continue your journey |

28, soon to be 29... think I'm getting too old for my E34 now, tempted to upgrade to a more sensible car... E39 530i sport in silver with black leather and aluminium trim should do it nicely!

Oh, dear.
Oh, dear. It looks like either nobody else is admitting it, or else I really am the oldest poster on this thread. Ahem. I am 49 (just), but I can assure you I feel like 18 on the inside. . . . . . To be quite honest, a couple of years ago I bought an old Fiat X 1/9, similar to the first car I ever owned. It felt just as good as ever, zipping along the country lanes, but quite soon I started to realise that I could no longer ignore the noise levels and feeling of vulnerability. Definite sign of age. Now, I think my E39 is the bee's knees. Much more GO than the X 1/9, and comfy, too. Now then, where are my slippers. . . . . . |

When I was at uni a couple of years ago, one of the first year's was driving around in a brand new (at the time) e39 520i, this guy was clearly 17 and a reasonably new driver as he spent most of the time lighting the tyres and going sideways whilst looking terrified. Turns out the car was bought by a rich dad for his son going off to uni, while the rest of us either walked (me) or drove things like fiat pandas. I thought he was a flash git, and he was fairly smug and self opinionated.

When I went to uni I had my Dad's Audi S8 Bi Turbo for seven weeks (he slipped a disk)... Went down well with all the girls at freshers. Got off to a flying start compared to all the other young guys! (I'm eternally grateful to that TV he tried to pick up and the resulting slipped disk) The S8 was black with the 19 inch wheels and the alloy mirrors, it sounded like a jet engine when you took off. Everyone knew I was in the area and being four wheel drive I survived to tell the tale. If it was an Alpina B10 Bi Turbo I wouldn't be here today!

my first bmw was at 19 ( a 318I E30 ) when I went to see my older brother at UNI I got chatting to girls in his group of friends, Jo in particular. We were getting on really well when she asked me What I had studied when I was at university. only then I realised she thought I must be older than my brother doing the job I had at the time and driving a BMW. made me warm and tingly inside. Then I made her warm and tingly inside, but that is for another forum
So yes, the BMW does seem to "mature" you at a certain age. Now in my early 30's I think its about right. Still smacks of above average success as its not a mondeo, but it does not say, "cockney wide boy trader" or other such stimatisms that my Audi TT seems to attract. I won't miss it when its gone.. or the bills... |

37 now ..and loving 5 series owner ship after doing all the RS Turbo,Cosworth, imprezza type stuff.. Hats off to you guys in your 20's who are wise enough to go for a 5 series.. Slightly off topic but when my bro was a soldier in his early 20's he bought a private plated E34 535, anyway, after a fewweeks of ownership he was dragged into an office to have his post opened infornt of him because they suspected he was involved in "bad practices" IE they thought he was taking/selling drugs..and the reason for this? Just because he had the BMW...

LOL me and my friend were pulled by the police a few years ago. He had a bog standard white E36 316. When we asked why we were stopped the copper said it had been radio'd in that 2 skinheads were driving around in a BMW and therefore must be up to no good!! I thought it was the style police because the beemer was sporting plastic wheel trims! |
