As people post new topics your topic will move down the list until it becomes less visible within the list. If your topic is important e.g. next regional meeting, you don't want that to happen, so by making it sticky it moves into the important section, stays at the top and doesn't get lost.

You have to ask a moderator to promote/demote your topic to/from sticky.

Does that make sense?

the thread starter (if they have the privilges) can make a topic stickied or unstickied.
Stickies get this icon...
