I prefer a more leasurly driving style as well. My other half feels sick when I'm driving at any speed on country roads. I'm with AndyS on this one I'm afraid.

Very disappointed in you all!

The region has all but disappeared it would appear.

Not everyone wants to get involved in a "spirited" wacky races drive where they stuggle to keep up with big performance cars. Apart from the fact that older cars just don't have the brakes or roadholding we worry for the safety of our pride & joys. If you prang your Six you can just go & buy another, I can't replace my 635 so easily.

Another issue is the "gang" mentality. Driving fast rather than just quickly is best done with one car.  Two or more cars driving very fast together would be seen as racing in the eyes of the law.

It's up to the individual whether it's the kind of event they want to attend so don't throw your teddy out of the pram just because not everyone wants to come out & play.

Stern rebuke over.

..you've also got to remember Christmas was only round the last corner - things are slack for many people at the moment.

i am very disappointed in you Coasting. i am sure lots of members would love to attend but due to other committments they cant. the last thing these people need is a slating for it.

i think you should apologise for the lack of character remark. we bmw drivers need to pull together not grief each other.

I'm half scared I'll just prang mine. I've been getting used to Quattro 4WD for two winters and now I am going RWD, could be a lot of "door handles first!" moments!

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavours last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

++ IMPORTANT UPDATE ++ IMPORTANT UPDATE ++

There are now a minimum of 12 cars confirmed for this (excluding anyone from the BMWCC Northeast).

However, the format of the meet has now changed.  The intention now is to meet at Washington Services Northbound (A1) at 9.45am.

At 10.15am we'll then depart for Haggerston Castle where we will meet a couple of guys from TSN Scotland.  They'll be in two interesting cars too.  A Mark IV VW Golf R32 and a brand new Mark V VW Golf R32.

From there, we'll be going on an hours trip somewhere across some decent country lanes before stopping off for a bite to eat.

Route details will be available closer to the date.

If you're still coming to this, or a new addition, please post below and let me know so we have a good idea of numbers.

I laugh at your mini motor engines, and scoff at your tiny bhp figures!!!evilhat.gif

I would have a W16.  With 1001bhp.  (& 4 turbos)

You & me both, mate.

On the plus side, at least our sixes are rebuildable whereas these new-fangled motors are scrap if any part wears out prematurely.

The number of cylinders an engine has (or rather needs) is dependant on capacity & the required revs.

The current trend for V8's from BMW, Jaguar, Audi etc has more to do with the US market demands than any refinement issues. In fact, a 6 cylinder has better primary balance than an 8.
