I am upgrading the heater/air system within the the car of my 518i to fit rear vents between the seats.

I have not had the vehicle very long and am wondering if anyone can tell me where the fixing points are for this so I dont damage anything trying to take it out.

I need to remove from the whole unit from the heater box back to the rear between the two front seats.

I have searched the net and this forum and can find nothing.

You should be able to work out the mountings from the pics below.

most awkward one is the front console at side it hides under the side panel under the steering wheel.

You star that is spot on. Thank you.

As a matter of interest, where did you get the diagrams from ?

Good luck with this - it's fairly easy to do - I just figured it out without the diagram (which would have come in very useful !) It took about an hour to do.

It's quite a tight fit, but it will go - just remove some of the padding under the gear box area and feel your way to find the capped off end of the vent - just unscrew and pull off.

If you look at the first diagram I couldn't get no. 3 back in place as it was too tight and it ended up snapping! And I ended up with a few screws left at the end?

No harm done as these things a built really well and everything fitted snuggley back into place

Very useful for all those diagrams and part numbers you need.

No, bent it back - and felt my way to where the air vent was.

It didn'd do any damage and all went back in place - if I would have taken off the front section maybe it would have been a different matter !

Good luck, I'm a novice so you should be ok - let us know your outcome
