   At last !

Got my car booked in on a brand new 500bhp rolling road at one of the local tuners.

At present I have stainless semi race system from the downpipes back ( decatted ), Viper 2 chip running on the standard throttle body and standard BMW air filter.

Having a power run with it in that spec, then the garage will be fitting the race manifolds and downpipes, I will quickly change to the big bore throttle body, and then drop in the K+N panel filter, then to finish the job another power run etc.

Will post the results back here for those who were interested before.

Sadly I cannot afford to do a power run inbetween adding those bits, it would be nice to have a run after each of those other bits were added of course. This should at least give people a general idea of what gives power and what doesnt ? 

If I can strike a deal with them I may see if I can have a seperate run for just the BBTB and K+N as these are the bits people seem to ask about more than anything else on the forums. 
My viper2 chip was optimised by Jason at chippedUK for the BBTB aswel btw.

Gonna stick my neck out here and make my guestimates , be nice to post back and see how close they are once the runs are done.

Current Power Est: 165 at the wheels, Around 195 - 198 flywheel.

With Manifolds: 170 at the wheels, Around 204 at the flywheel.

Plus BBTB + K+N: 172 at the wheels, Around 206 at the flywheel.

The above is based on a conservative 20% transmission loss ( which is maybe on the generous side ).

Gonna fill the car with optimax aswel as im nearly needing a fresh tank of fuel anyways.

	I would expect a transmission loss of 23% from any manual BMW...

	Hi Sleeper, This thing seems to be one of those ones thats "depends" who you ask, be very interested to know what you have based your theory on etc, this would at least enable me to make a more accurate calculation once ive been on the rollers ? Cheers

	24.7% is the losses on this vehicle. This is why many rollers give different results.

	@ mark - this is the figure that has always been used for my BMW's both E34 & E36.. This is very much Jay's field though!

	sleeper is right, most people who use rollers set the figure at 23% which gives the best all round info to the end user as with most people using this gigure we get a more average results instead of widely differing results although i have ready where people have set it at 40% etc etc

	Thanks chaps...... Slight change of plan, I will be having the run in current spec, then changin to the BBTB + K+N panel and having another power run. My mate has offered to do the manifolds etc with me but cant do it until the weekend, I will go back and have another power run sometime in the near future instead, this will actualy probably be more useful to the average forum member anyways as most people generaly go with the Viper2 chip, BBTB and K+N and stainless exhaust from what ive seen which is basicaly the spec im taking down on thursday.

	Hell yer, this is the kinda stuff I woulda killed to see in advance of spending a few hundred quid LOL, maybe a mod could edit this topic once I get the results and pin it for the other members etc ? Every car is different and I appreciate that, its good to have a rough guide tho. Cheers Mark.

	Please note I haved traced over the lines with bold pen so it would show up on the scanner properly. Same spec as above but with Big Bore Throttle Body + K+N Panel Filter. 156.5 bhp @ 5900rpm 142.0 nm @ 4800rpm

	As above but replaced the K+N and put the std BMW Air Filter back in. 151.8 bhp @ 6050rpm 142.0 nm @ 5200rpm

	After overlaying the graphs and having driven all the variants I think its fair to say the car gives a better spread of power and better torque without the BBTB and K+N, other peoples opinions ???

	Looks that way.. thats a big drop with the std filter! Torque is a bit more ironed out with the mods, even though you have lost 5nm, you have more constant push elsewhere. Whats it like to drive though?? P.s. I got 160.5 RWHP from mine with the BMW filter in... hmmm... Good work mark!

	One thing that is massively apparant is the distinct lack of torque, allowing for the 24.7% drivetrain loss it still only weighs in at 183nm of torque and 135 ft/lbs, standard should be making 183 ft/lbs ?? any ideas anyone ?

	btw, we only did the one run with the std filter back in, he only charged me for 2 of the 7 runs we did in total !

	To me the car feels a little flat below the 4500 mark with the BBTB and K+N fitted, and doesnt exactly feel like it pulls any harder afterwards either to be honest, which is why I wanted these power runs. When you look at the graphs without the BBTB and K+N you can easily see although it doesnt peak so high on BHP the torque is better low down, the curve is much more consistant and it doesnt drop off so quickly, in effect and IMHO making the car better for torque and power throughout the whole rev range.
