You're probably back from the lakes by now, hope you enjoyed the new motor and the conditions were okay.

You have two stages on your DSC/ASC+T the first one will allow some slip the second will turn it all off(ish) (press again to turn it all back on). I don't think this turns it all off compeletely as you are safer with it, but to be honest any braking that is hard enough to cause a skid (and trigger the ABS) is not a good idea in the snow anyway. Use the gears to slow down...I know, I know emergencies must but at least with the ABS you will be able to steer, skidding in the snow might bring you to a halt faster than with the ABS but you will have probably have hit what you were trying to avoid by that stage anyway!

No don't pull the fuse out. As Sleeper has said it would probably invalidate your insurance. ABS might not be ideal in the snow but it isn't that bad. It's certainly not something to worry about. The key to driving in snow is to drive slowly and leave a big gap. As long as you stick to this principle you won't have any problems ABS or not.

the system will revert to normal braking on snow.

edit: don't forget, if you pull the fuse and stack it, you'll probably be kissing goodbye to any insurance claim too!!!

I used to find ABS was super sensitive in the snow
If you can't be good don't get caught

nope, they are switchable via another gear lever (2H-4H-4L)

As for other cars, I wouldn't know how they handle in the snow having only owned BMW's. All I do know is that my old E30's were a bit rear-end skittish, as is the compact.

The ABS in my old E36 wasn't too bad in the snow although it wasn't as good as me in a none ABS car.

hi everyone! :)

it's been a while since i posted on this bbs (since i sold my e24 635 CSI), but i've just bought (3 days ago) a 2002 e46 330ci sport. i'm going on holiday next week to the lake district and i'm a bit concerned about driving in snow with abs.

the last car with abs that i drove in snow (a '95 laguna - spit!) was useless. there was next to no braking effect as it was continuously releasing the brakes!

hopefully the bmw is more intelligent to work out that it needs to lock the brakes in snow... or do i need to pull the abs fuse out?

thanx,
jules.
