[QUOTE=Floody] Come on livvy, lets get in the real word.
I go down to Southampton from Durhan 5/6 time's a year to see my
daughter. Sometimes I get away at 4/5am, in the summer me 100+,hit
traffic down to 40/50, or even 30, if the nutter's are on the road,
then if it's empty back to 100+, I like it think im a good driver.
Speed limits should change according to conditons 4 am 100 4pm 40,
let's get real |
You think you are a good driver, who doesn't think they are.
You can criticise a man's house, his wife, his prowess in the bedroom,
but don't criticise his car or his ability to drive it, because that
will enrage him.

You see, that's where you just cannot seem to understand!
Safer does not have to equal slower.
Safe does not = fast nor slow, just safer / better....

Cats know your every thought.
But don't care.

That's not what I said.
I said the advanced training should be done to concentrate on making
you safer. It shouldn't be done with a a view to think that you should
be allowed to faster.

Well its a pity you don't livvy, because you would then
know that the guidelines are just that........guidelines, I could have
put you in touch with a serving met traffic officer who was gobsmacked
to see an nip from avon & somerset scamera agencey for 31 in a 30,
and I kid you not. |
But I do know them well.
That is not out of step with the guidelines I posted above, if they
consider that area such a problem. See the over rider I posted above.

Elucidate oh wise one!

It doesn't have to be a massive increase across the board, say 10
mph in nsl's for example, but could just be the carrot we need to get
more people to do advanced driving, and thus improve the casualty
figures...........wont earn any money though |
Advanced driving should be about making people safer, not driving faster.

No
ACPO guidelines state what the minimum action should be unless
exceptional circumstances apply, not that action shouldn't take place
below those speeds if Police consider their is juts reason to.
i.e.
On a 70 limit , the minimum action that should be taken for someone
doing 79mph is a ticket (unless exceptional circumstances exist), 96
means a court appearance. There is also then the over rider that this
does not replace an officers discretion to take that action (ticket or
summons) at lower speeds where they deem it necessary.
Now in particular problem areas you may get a tciket for under 79 in a 70 for instance.

Unfortunately Floody that is so right.
In the "good old days" if caught speeding (100mph at 3am on the M1) by a real Policeman there was a chance he would have used his discretion.
Cameras? no chance!
Computers??? Pah!!!!!!!!!!
|
Cameras are actually set in line with ACPO guidelines, so they are infact set to prosecute at speeds which the Assosciation Of Chief Police Officers decree is the minimum for which action should be taken.

people don't keep their skills up to date. Better than that we account for it with our limits. Setting higher limits just means that those you have identified will drive at them because they don't think they are poor & that will increase danger. Better to have limits that all should be able to cope with hazards in rather than have them that only the best can & encourage those with less skill to travel at. |
Wrong - better to make people improve there skills, why do we always want to dumb down??

Speed may not be the major factor in most collisions, but reducing it could be a major factor in reducing collisions, because it gives people that golden nugget *time*. Time to cover their other inadequacies & aboid the collision. Speed just serves to exaggerate those inadequacies instead.

No, you will benefit from the extra safety zone that your skills create for you. Those skills don't mean that you can speed.
