How do you all rate Yokohama A539 tyres? On the way upto the NEC on Friday I noticed the car vibrating pretty bad at 85mph, so proceeded to drive through it. Completely smooth at ***mph! But when I got back to the car after the show, the nsf tyre was flat. I thought nothing of it, and promptly changed it with the spare. I got to take a look at it today, and found that the tread had separated from the chords in sections on the inner edge Made me wonder what might have happened if it expired on the motorway! Struggling on getting Pirelli tyres for it but have found a set of A539's so plumped for these. Any good?

I used to run A539s on my Cinquecento and were very good. Don't expect much mileage. The obvious parallels betweens the cars should mean that they will suit the E30 quite well... |

Shep, once my S02's have worn down (which is at quite a slow rate with the amount of miles I do) I'm replacing them with Yokohama Advan Neova's 225 45 16. These are meant to be comparible with S02's. They are only available from Lotus dealers in this size and are not the same tread pattern as the ones shown on the Yokohama web site - well not what I viewed today anyway! Maybe they are worth a look mate? pic 4th from bottom: http://www.brooke-kensington.co.uk/ppartl3.htm A regular on here has bought a set - cant remember who now, if you're reading maybe you could fill us in with some feedback

I ran 15" A539's on my old 325 touring, and they were fabulous tyres. I moved from the PO's Pirelli P600 to the Yokos, and it was a revelation - Less tramlining, much more grip and much more feel from the steering. They were nice tyres in the dry and tolerable in the wet too. Admittedly it was a car driven most of the time by my wife, but we managed about 14,000 from the rears and 18,000 from the fronts. The car had an lsd, so not a million miles from the M3 in terms of approach, though I would expect the M3 to be kinder on tyres on account of its better balance. My two penneth...... As a plan B, have you tried the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD2? Nice and true in the dry and fabulous in the wet. That's what I run on my M3, and would not be in a rush to change from them. |

Thanks guys, I am biased for the Yoko's I must admit. I used to race with A008R's and I remember having A008's on my Astra GTE many years ago, and they used to grip really well even in the wet with zero tread. For an Astra, thats saying something! I've lost my way lately on tyres, and would have loved something similar to the old A008's. |
