I'm a new boy here. I am thinking of buying a 525i E34 model and was wondering which one to go for. I have a few questions to ask and would appreciate any help.

manual or automatic/what extra's does SE have/24v or 12v/do the engines have timing belts or chain/what to look out for when looking at cars apart from the obvious engine rattles, blue smoke, crash damage.

cheers bren

Hi Bren,

I have a 1993 525i Sport which is coming up for sale in a week or two. It has 150,000 miles with service history. I recently put in 6 new coil packs and replaced the limited slip diff.

It has the M5 bodykit, dechromed, black leather sports seats, all fitted by the dealer when bought new. I have the spec sheet for the car when it was bought.

If you want any pics, I'll see if I can sort some out for you.

Take it easy

Mark

Bren

I had one of these.  Check the usual stuff as you mentioned.  They do however tend to eat front shocks and the heads are soft as well so check for water in the oil and vice versa etc etc

Auto boxs are very good.  Make sure though to buy one with fhs and leather.  The leather should also be heated.  There should be absolutely no rust on these babies whatsoever.  If there is walk away.

Also buy a 24v model which should be 91 on (correct me if Im wrong) The 12v model is the old 172bhp jobbie that was also in the e30 325i

Happy hunting and best of luck!!
