head gasket

   ive just bought a 316 on a 1989 f plate with a problem, head gasket gone!
is there any body out there who could give me advise on repairing it, i am mechanicly minded as im always working on cars but never had to fix a beemer as they seen to never brake, this is the second bmw ive owned and my 1st one never caused me any bother.
