All

While out and about yesterday, I managed to bump into the cutsoms and excise boys dipping for diesel.  They stopped me (cos the M3 is still on NI plates) and asked me about it.  He then told tme hat I had 7 days to pay the VRT.  Now I know its around the €3k mark but I hadn't planned on paying it ........ for a few months anyway.

Any one know how I can get around this????

I know of a girl who had a Pajero Evo taken off her for not paying... For the hassle it'll save you I'd pay it... don't know of any way around it unless you can get a UK address for yourself

Just got prices back

Quote by VRT

"if the car is pristine - €3600 or if it is in good cond €2850"

They define the cond of the car on visual inspection.

Am I f***ed now or what?

if you want you can swap out a few bits from my e30 for the inspection - the seats alone in my one would wipe 2K off the value of your car!!

i heard the mileage is the biggest factor in the price of the VRT - alot of people swap out the clocks for the inspection for a high mileage set...

I was under the assumption that they decided upon a set value for the car - my wife brought her 1 yr owned 106 from Norn Iron (where she is from) but had to pay IR£1000 on the thing - revenue decided the figure from a list average price for that years 106

Killian

thanks but they asked me the mileage and I already gave it to them.  I didnt know the mileage would have been a factor - if I did i'd take them off you.

aah - good ol' Ireland and its legalised robbery!

What value did they place on the car?
Did they show evidence of how they arrived at that price?
Was there much difference between their estimate and the price you paid?
If you can show that it is worth much less than they estimated, can you appeal it & would you be likely to succeed?
K.

Its absolutely flippin ridiculous that I have to pay an extra tax of nearly 3k on an 88 car.

I am very annoyed to say the least.

And as for insurance ........ dont get me started.  I was talking to William Boylan who told me that a mate of his insured an m3 for £250 on a 3000 mile limited policy

ANd the irish roads!!!! jesus im so annoyed right now.

How much more backward can this country get ?????????????

Is it not 27% of the Irish value of the car? That would mean they valued it at ~€10,500.

Brendan, the VRT (Vehicle Registration Theft) percentage is based upon cc - see the table below: (BTW www.revenue.ie is crap site with very difficult navigation!)

  • Cars

up to 1400cc

22.5% of OMSP (Subject to a min. tax of €315)

1401cc - 1900cc

25% of OMSP(Subject to a min. tax of €315)

over 1900cc

30% of OMSP (Subject to a min. tax of €315)

  • Small Vans and some jeeps

13.3% of OMSP (Subject to a min. tax of €125)

  • Motor Cycles

- New

€2 per cc up to 350cc and €1 per cc thereafter

- Used

€2 per cc up to 350cc and €1 per cc thereafter less a deduction for age.

  • Hybrid Electric Vehicles
50% of VRT payable may be remitted or repaid in respect of certain hybrid vehicles. A hybrid electric vehicle is a vehicle that derives its power from a combination of an electric motor and an internal combustion engine and is capable of being driven on electric propulsion alone for a material part of its normal driving cycle.

  • Other Vehicles

e.g. Tractors, Large Vans, Lorries etc a flat rate of €50.
