Hi, this is a continuation of my electrical problem, and my non-starting 635.

I was told by M3AG that...

'if the car sits for too long the sensors fitted into the loom from the flywheel go bad. You can remove them and clean them up, but most of the time they stop working altogether.
One prevents the car from starting, theother won't let it rev past 1k.

But they are £48 from a stealer, so the best thing would be to remove them and have them checked. Easy to remove, just take your time doing it. They are held down by an allen key fixing and just pull out once released.'

Well I have a part number for a pulse generator (12141708619)

I also have job NO: 12 14 510 - Speed sender - check / replace from the BMW manual on CD.

Are these 2 the same part? I cant seem to find anyting but the pulse generator on realOEM.com

Can someone tell me if this is correct. And if not what do I need, as I want to get my car working now, its been about 7 weeks!

Also, can someone let me know what a speed sender does - persumable iy tells the speedo what speed the car is going (or is that too easy)?

Can someone also tell me what a 'pulse generator' does (i guess it sends a spark to the plugs or distributor? and what a 'reference mark sender' is.

Hi

The pulse generator send pulses from the sensor on the flywheel to the ECU in some contortionate way and tells the ignition system when to fire etc. 12141708619 were the part nos I used for both from the flywheel.

pulse generator which is also known as a speed spensor?

The speed sensor I've been told plugs into the diff, and tells the speedo what revolutions the car is doing which is converted into mph on the gauge. 62161369905 the part no on my OEM copy.

speed sensor also listed as a pulse generator?

Just a thought, I imagine you've checked the DME relay in the fuse box or the fuel pump relay that sits by the bulkhead (well it does on an e23)?
